Preamble: I need to buy some more electro, but at ~16-20 USD per album I need to invest wisely. I know there was an electro thread on here a couple months ago and I paid close attention. But I have some follow-up questions I'm looking for any advice on. Just for the record, I generally prefer dark, deep Teutonic electro (Anthony Rother's _Simulations- zeitalter_ is my favorite electro LP) over tinny, empty-sounding Detroit stuff like what I've heard of Ectomorph, Drexciya, and I-F (maybe not from Detroit). Bear in mind I haven't heard much from any of those. And I'm just nuts about vocoding. (1) Where do I start with the Ersatz Audio label? Is Le Car _Auto Biography_ a great album, or just not bad? Any opinions on V/A _Sounds of Tomorrow_? Worth 18 bucks to a hard-for-cash college student? (2) Two mixed releases on Interdimensional Transmissions have gotten a lot of acclaim: V/A _From Beyond_ and I-F _Mixed up in the Hague_. I got I-F's 3X12 on IT and it really didn't do anything for me. And I haven't been terribly impressed with other IT releases. Should I bother with either of these CDs? Are any other IT releases a cut above the rest? (3) I'm told the SCSI label releases solid tunes. Is the Carl Finlow _Electrocide_ LP or V/A _Galactic Equator_ LP a good place to start? (4) Any tips on getting into continental dark electro labels like Murdercapital, Viewlexx, Psi49Net (other than the LP), or Clone? Should I avoid any of those? (5) To Dopplereffekt or not to Dopplereffekt. I haven't heard any of this (unfortunately I can't use programs like Napster). Is it essential to a small electro collection? Or is it just more of that tinny 4/4 Detroit style I can afford to live without? (6) Any other electro tracks/albums you'd recommend? Please keep in mind I'm really looking for diamonds in the rough, so I encourage a high standard of criticism. (7) Spelunk, SCSI, Breakin', Clear, Clone, Data- physix, Direct Beat, Disko B, Elektrolux, Ersatz Audio, Gigolo, Interdimensional Transmissions, Kanzleramt, Murdercapital, Psi49Net/7th City, Rephlex, Viewlexx, Studio !K7, Tresor... Who's releasing the finest dark electro? I don't know anything about the late Clear label...did they release danceable, vocoded electro? Or were they more on the experimental side? Thanks if you looked at these questions. I know it all ultimately boils down to taste but I'm just looking for guidance. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
