Entroducing and I love and i am looking for more of course he has more! here's his discography: http://www.endtroducing.com/djs_disco.html>> I think _Endtroducing_ is the finest release on the whole hip hop/acid jazz world. Stem/ Long Stem is an absolute masterpiece. That said, I consider DJ Shadow's newer album, _Preemptive Strike_, to be a complete waste of money. I'm sure lots of people dig it, but in general fans (including me) were disappointed. I'm told _PS_ was put out in a hurry in order to avoid new pending copy- right laws (hence the name of the album)... and it shows. I also got a Q-Bert remix bonus disc with my _PS_ and that's crap. I don't know about any DJ Shadow singles or imports though. He is also half of Unkle (along with James Lovell), so you might want to check out _Psyence Fiction_, but I wasn't too impressed with that album either. A lot of "guests" were on that album, like Thom Yorke and Mike D of the Beastie Boys. It's mostly more rock-oriented hip hop songs in the Beastie Boys vein. The best track on there is the only electro track (#8), and it was a direct rip-off of a Newcleus track from the 80s with no credit given to Newcleus whatsoever. To follow this tangent, I've got the Newcleus "best of" disc in my portable right now and it's really amazing stuff... dated hip hop electro from the 80s, but really dreamy. I love it. ps. Orbital 2 *is* the brown album, right? pps. I think it's funny that whenever good labels (like Warp) release bad music everybody applauds it because it's so unexpected or kitsch or whatever, but then people don't appreciate bad music in general (e.g., the Top 40). I really enjoy all bad music. I think people don't give bad music enough credit. I finally got Bodenstandig 2000 on Rephlex a couple weeks ago and I just love it. A friend of mine turned me onto a CD of mixes by DJ Shadow called "Bombay The Hard Way" and it's great! It's all Indian B-Film scores and tunes remixed. If you are into DJ Shadow, or just into something a little different, check it out. and conducted music for the so-called "Brownsploitation" films from India's 1960s and '70s "Bollywood," this is one of the latest projects of Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Bay Area producer and music master mind behind Dr. Octagon, with additional beats credit going to DJ Josh Davis, better know as the Quannum Collective's DJ Shadow. Every track on this record sounds as though it were ripped from an American or European spy movie, but with Eastern Indian twists like sitars or Indian chord influenced moog licks. There is nothing of the classic, Middle Eastern modal sound, the kind of convoluted stuff that John Coltrane got into later in his career, but rather, Indian-ized American compositional music, very groovy and full of funk and jazz-based musical ideals. Some tracks owe to the hip-hop influences of the producers, with rough, thuggish beats emphasized and laid out over things like sitar loops, flute solos and heavy string and moog accompaniment ("My Guru," "Fists of Curry," "Punjabis, Pimps & Players"). Other tunes on the record hold truer to their original forms, with emphasis on composition, instrumentation, and most importantly, that tried and true secret agent theme, sometimes presented in go-go style ("Ganges A Go-Go," "Uptown Bollywood Nights"), other times as a surfed-out tribal, disco noise ("Swami Safari"), and other times, just some straight-up, Mission Impossible type stuff ("Fear of a Brown Planet"). With almost no lyrics-save samples from the movies themselves-and no cuts or scratches in the records, this first class joint could almost be considered an illbient album, with an East Indian lean towards The Automator's Dr. Octagon Instrumentalist and Shadow's Entroducing.
