oh, c'mon. If you haven't heard the brown album, you probably shouldn't be talking about orbital as a band who make 'useless crap'. This pegs you as a late-comer with quite a limited understanding of their work. If you've heard the brown album or "belfast" and still want to believe this, fine... IMO, In Sides pales in comparison to the brown album. Halcyon + On + On is one of the greatest pieces ever written. Ever. ---brian ------------------------ Brian W. Listen, I've heard these CDs listed below made by orbital from colection of my friend and the only one really worth checking is "In Sides". Am I really quite limited in understading of their work? btw. the trackname Halcyon sounds familiar to me - it is on one of the albums I've heard - maybe in some remix form.... It means that I wasn't impressed with it eather. sorry no love for obital coming from here. no way. pop crap. ok I didn't hear that brown stuff and I hope you're right that it is good but frankly speaking after "Middle of Nowhere" I decided to forget about Orbital...muzak...brrrr. The Green album and Snivilisation have always remained my favourites. I did like the Brown album, but the tempo seemed to remain consistent all the way through. (I'm not saying they *didn't* subtly shift the tempo about between tracks but it just sounds like the same tempo all the way through.) Not enough variety for my liking, although I still dig it when I'm in the right mood. The Green album and Snivilisation both have a much broader, dynamic range of material on them. I loved the Green album for its relative freshness at the time and Snivilisation for shifting the goal posts. In Sides and The Middle of Nowhere are both good fun. Both full of *good* tracks but not really any *amazing* ones. I first heard all the Middle of Nowhere stuff during their Brixton Academy gig (with Plaid in support -- woohoo!) last year. Absolutely amazing live. For me, TMON is practically a souvenir of that gig, so it's hard for me not to listen to it outside that context. -- Mark Stevens http://www.headspin.clara.net/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

<<btw. the trackname Halcyon sounds familiar to me - it is on one of the albums I've heard - maybe in some remix form....>> If you've seen the movie "Hackers," Halcyon +on+on is featured during the opening credits. So you can rent it :). I'm assuming this is just another one of those North American re-release things, but when I got _Insides_ I got a disc of live tracks including I believe two live versions of Halycon plus a bunch of other classics. It occurred to me that every album I've discussed on this list lately (Squarepshr 'Big Loada', DJ Shadow 'PS', Orbital 'Insides') have all included special extra CDs or a few extra tracks when released in North America. So it sucks that we don't get as many cool releases as Europe does, but it's nice that when they finally are released here they often have all this bonus stuff. I hear Warp recently signed with EFA/Caroline, so I think that's nice too. But I digress... <<pop crap.>> I totally disagree, but, you know, different strokes... And I've only heard like three Orbital albums though. But hopefully I'll get some more once I'm financially secure (i.e., in about 10 years). _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.
