hey i live in cali. but i am only armed with the powers of jimmy swaggart, little marcy, ethyl (and syd, come to think of it) barrett, the little dancing chicken, mini pops & way too much love for truckin'. but i will take you all on. that aside, what was the v/vm gig like? ..details? i cant understand why anyone would be sad that folks are energetic and cheering at a gig (that was the start of this thread, correct?). aside from one person i can think of who obnoxiously shouts at bands and very vocally cricizes them if they are not hard enough (metal dude!!!), and e'd out kids blowin whistles to thier own beat at all the wrong moments of musical goodness.. such things never get to me. perhaps i need to spend more time in my bedroom and stop interacting with the outside world to understand this list :) potential noise maker during the coachella ae set (though dead silent in an open field under the stars in the perfect "mindset" during spiritualized), chris. music for lunchpails riders of the plastic groove kuci 88.9fm, irvine, ca www.kuci.org -.trust me, i'm a doctor and you suffer from a rare form of attractiveness.- On Mon, 9 Oct 2000, i dig mathrock wrote:

First off, technical stuff... The venue isn't bad: by day it's a dining hall with permanent seating at one end (the opposite end to the stage), and the tables and chairs in the middle are cleared away for gigs etc. Nice and roomy, not bad sounding. The PA was good, with some slight artifacts from the right stack, probably due to it not being properly isolated. However, the sound engineer must've had his head up his arse. For the whole evening the levels were terrible. At one point, a guy on stage unplugged a microphone which had been giving serious feedback and waved it at the soundman, shouting "this is the mic that's feeding back, dickhead". Music... There were several other bands playing as well as V/Vm, including BilgePump, Polaris, someone else, and Wisdom of Harry; the first two sharing a drummer and guitarist - who were excellent. The standard of music was pretty average, and Wisdom of Harry in fact left the stage in the middle of their set as most of the audience had left out of boredom. V/Vm came on...two guys, one in a chicken costume, one in a green and red heart (with an arrow) costume, both wearing pig masks. Set up looked like a small mixer, one chunky laptop (Toshiba?),a sexy Sony Vaio, and a single Pioneer DJ CD deck. The performance consisted of the guys playing their tracks with one or other miming the vocals. Not being very familiar with V/Vm music, I wasn't sure what to expect. Tracks included versions of John Lennon's "Imagine", Robbie Williams' "Angels" and the classic "Lady in Red". Very dark-sounding, at times quite scary music, contrasting with the two lads jumping around on stage. I think it's very unlikely that I will ever see anything quite like that again. At least until the next time I see them play. People weren't ready for what V/Vm offered, and there were shouts of "get off" and "you're shit" from the audience gathered at the back of the hall. While the 10 of us in front of the stage were having a great time. One girl ran out of the hall crying when they played "Imagine". If you get a chance to see these guys play, you really owe it to yourself to go. It's an experience and a half. The only disappointment for me was that I didn't get to meet them afterwards, but apparently they thought the band after them was shit, so they went home.
