Did anyone else here attend this show? It was at this club called The Quest last night. I was the guy standing near the stage wearing a big blue sweater and black jeans. The show was scheduled to start at 8, but apparently Chris and Mike were late, so the show was delayed til 10 pm. The opening act, Mr. Projectile, played a nice set incorporating lots of slick transitions and a smattering of live female vocals. Definitely check this guy out if you haven't already. I was a bit disappointed with the turnout for the show, as it was taking place in the smaller second-floor area of the club, and even then there was room for many more people. I remember the Mike Paradinas/Luke Vibert show I attended there last year being much more crowded. Still, those that did show up seemed to enjoy the music with decent enthusiasm. Lotsa head-nodding and swaying was going on, with the occasional attendee tapping along with the skittering beats against a table top or a glass. Still, there wasn't enough dancing for my taste. The first half of Funkstorung's performance was especially well-suited for booty-shakin, IMHO, but only a few lonely souls (not me, either :/) were brave enough to muster more than a token response to the auditory tempest unleashed by the German duo. Give me a burgeoning throng of dancing people and my self-consciousness melts away, like most people's. That's what I was hoping for (but not really expecting) at the show. The first half of Funkstorung's set seemed to consist of new material, capped off with a performance of I-O (track 8 from Appetite for Discstruction). After that song they seemed to break out lots more wax and did lots of spinning, with the fine-grained structured complexity of their newer sound taking a backseat for more repetitive dance fare. The show lost some energy here, I think, as everyone that had been standing in front of the stage was probably getting stiff, sore, cramped legs, so they all went to sit down further back in the room, leaving a big open area in front of the stage, occupied by a few stalwart stragglers. I unfortunately didn't get to see the very end of the show, as my ride needed to leave to catch a party going on elsewhere that night. That was around 12:40... If anyone that was at the show stayed through the whole thing, maybe they could fill us in on what happened after that time? :) Kudos to Chris and Mike for coming to the States to perform! -Lee
