"As tight as Bootsy's codpiece and as fanciful as George Clinton's views on space travel" Muzik on I Don't Either
Following the release of Oliver 'Beige' Braun's debut album, I Don't Either, comes the release of his first ever single. 'The Rhythm! The Message?' is aimed as much at the feet as the head, with elements of twisted house, techno, electro and Beige's peculiar sense of humour. ("Warning: don't try dancing to it, your pelvis will implode" Sleazenation)
Funny, funky, and totally rocking, this is alien funk of the highest order - house music stripped to the bare essentials, recontextualised and rebuilt by one of Cologne's best new mood engineers.
The list of DJs that have been playing tracks from the album and promos of this 12" is enviably varied. Not only did Andy Weatherall tell us that he'll be using 'The Rhythm! The Message?' to open his house sets for months to come, but Slam's Orde Meikle has been playing it in Ibeefa, which has got to be a first for Leaf... In fact, quite literally everyone in the world's playing it: Richie Hawtin, DJ Hell, Tom Middleton, Layo, Fumiya Tanaka, Takkyo Ishino, Richard Dorfmeister, Coldcut, Chris Duckenfield, DJ Morpheus, The Micronauts, Richard Grey, Daniel Miller, Stuart Patterson, Disastronaut, Dean Thatcher, Daniel Miller, Rob Wood, Imran Khan, John Kennedy...
I Don't Either was rated Album Of The Month by respected German techno paper de:bug, while the artwork has been selected for inclusion in graphic design company Intro's forthcoming book of radical sleeve design, Sampler 2.
The vocal snippets on the lead track come courtesy of Uje Brandelius (aka Dr Kosmos). The two B-side tracks are both new and exclusive to this 12" release.

reviews of 'The Rhythm! The Message?':
³This has to rate as this month¹s strangest record. Crucially though, it¹s also the funkiest. Imagine the JBs going one on one with Daniel Miller while Super_Collider turn up the bass and Mr Mad chirps in the background. 110% twisted² Muzik, 5/5
"a humorous, individual take on funky tech-house.....the whole kit and kaboodle adds up to a very infectious tune" Dean Thatcher, 7 magazine, 4/5
"The title track is a mighty tech house wig out which will become dangerous in the right hands" Wax, 9/10
"A wonderfully individual record. Betcha Weatherall is diggin' this - I certainly am" iDJ
³While many experimant in the field of click/whir funk there can be few, if any, who do it with as much physicality and humour as this man² Overload
"If that funky monkey George Clinton did a duet with the mind scrambling Aphex Twin, all arrows suggest it would sound something like this" West End Extra
"One for the freaks to come out to" Jockey Slut
reviews of I Don't Either:
"deeply technological but... raises its cap to house, dub, hip hop and funk. Playful and innovative" XLR8R
"impressive futuristic funk... these tracks positively ooze with it" Wax
"has a warmth and catchiness that lingers. Alluring right through to the end" 7
"in common with Pole, Beige's debut relocates what is essentially house music to some far distant galaxy" Q
"Imagine the futuristic clicks and cuts of the Mille Plateaux stable, infused with the 'ants in your pants' philosophy of P-Funk" Xfade
"wonderful fun" Melody Maker
