"series" is the 4th solo full length cd by minimal sound artist/composer Richard Chartier.
Created over an 8 month period "series" is Chartier's most minimal and subtle work to date.
employing soft hushed almost imperceptible high frequencies and bursts and staticy quiet low
shifting tones... the works explore an implied silence that is not silent. a quietness that
belies the activity and energy of the sounds. cyclical, meticulously subtle structured,
vaguely atmospheric digital compositions. meant to be experienced at low volumes or on
headphones.
richard chartier is a sound/visual artist residing outside of washington dc. He has recorded
solo cds for Meme, Fällt, Microwave, Intransitive and pieces on numerous international
compilations, as well as collaborative works with Nosei Sakata (*0) and Taylor Deupree on
12k. he has exhibited his visual and sound works in galleries in washington dc, boston,
virginia, and california. he recently performed at the Mutek Festival in Montreal, Canada.
currently working on a folio of his visual works with Fällt in Ireland and a new solo work
both for release in 2001. other upcoming projects: working with past collaborator *0 for
the second "0/r" release and a proposed project based on the work of Erik Satie with
visual/sound artist Steve Roden.
