Went to an all night rave in Brighton (UK) this last weekend (how many times
do I have to say 'no' to people trying to sell me pills?). There were five
different sound systems from around the south of England, including Zero
Tolerance, Electrophonic and Tengo (ours). Each playing a range of styles.
Our rig started off with Matt and Dave playing a back-to-back set of
bigbeat/drum'n'bass, moving into KMT's awesome dark jump-up set. The crowd
was loving it so much, he just kept on playing and only stopped when he ran
out of records! Other highlights were the dub reggae sound system on the
beach, playing some absolute classics ("Ring the alarm", anybody?) with some
of the rudest basslines I've ever heard. And Skywok played the sun up with a
beautiful set. At one point he was playing a Herbert track with a
kindergarten animal sounds record over the top, then mixing into Donna
Summers' "Love to love you", and later on mixing Plaid into "Superfly" by
James Brown. I think the Electrophonic crew were spinning mostly tech-house,
breaks and getting more and more IDM as the night turned into morning. There
were even people dancing towards the end, so maybe the D isn't completely
inappropriate!
Overall, a wicked night out: no hassle + no bad vibes + no overdoses = less
stress.
G-love.

PS - there's nothing quite like rolling a big spliff, listening to Bob
Marley and watching the sun come up, while sat on the beach. Must be
experienced to be believed.
