Who writes them? I sware sometimes they are so off base. I'm just curious what people are so endowed with that power. I think a lot of us buy things merely by reccomendation here, previous experience with the label, artist, or artist's labelmates, etc, AND the descriptions. Just curious -Gil --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

We all write them, and yes, because this is art we're talking about here, some of them will be off base. But the good part is when multiple people write something on the same release or artist, we can usually come to some sort of consensus. I think also that there is sort of an unwritten rule that if you perhaps don't know exactly what you're talking about, then maybe you don't write about it. Another good aspect of the list is that the people who do review stuff are extremely fluent in the genre and know how to express their thoughts (sometimes a little too much where they'll compare some new release to some other thing that I've never even heard of, but I suppose that's my problem). It's also a perfect forum for asking real general questions like "Is this band any good," or "How does their new release compare to their others?" Many people on this list know many things and love to share their knowledge. np: Phonem "Hydro Electric" which by the way is a very nice cd which is comparable to perhaps Autechre's "Ambre" especially in terms of rhythmic complexity and overall intensity, with a bit less synth backing. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Get it! It's lovely. I especially like the third track by Funckarma, Spatial Convolution. It's a remix of the track of the same name on the second ep DUB10, and really rather beautiful. As is the rest of the album. Ross. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Mannowarr@aol.com> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Tuesday, August 08, 2000 6:07 PM Subject: Re: [idm] new release descriptions
