We wouldn't normally post this to the idm list since the geography is wide-- but if anyone has Ever experienced the loss of records, AND if anyone is in France, and can help, and post to any French turntablism/hiphop newsgroups, etc. we would really really dig you and the reward offer is genuine...as many of you know, Kids got US tour dates comin up & what is a DJ without his music. In fact what are any of us without our tunes???? And if you can help, I'll up the ante and buy you a Ninja record bag to carry the tunes in....wendy@ninjatune.net "This is a request for help from old Ma Ninja. Yesterday, whilst on a train between Montpelier/Terasson/Nimes/Lunel in France, Kid Koala sadly had his records stolen along with his blue record box. If you've ever seen The Kid live you'll know that his records are his orchestra and are pretty irreplacable. If anyone can help us get them back, Ninja can offer you a copy of every album in our existing back catalogue as a reward. Send an email to dean@ninjatune.net if you have any info. Quelqu'un a volé les disques du Kid - Eric San. Il était sur le train entre Montpellier, Terrasson, Nîmes et Avignon. Quand il est descendu, il a decouvert que les disques ont disparus. Comme vous savez, sa collection est tout a fait unique. Si vous pouvez aider notre petit marsupial a decouvrer encore ses vinyls - les Ninjas peuvent donner, avec enormement de plaisir, tous les albums que nous avons fait pendant nos 10 années d'existance - ou bien, une récompense en liquide. Hey it's Jeff from Ninja now.... Suffice to say even if these records are not located his upcoming tour will not be affected, so don't go returning those tickets. The Ninja record collecting massive can fill in all the holes left by the theft, but obviously getting Koala's records back is a priority (cause we all cringe at lending Eric records...cause you know he wrecks them and get his dirty little fingers all over them). The irony is that the stolen box of records has absolutly no value to anyone but Eric. These records are chewed up with stickers and writing all over them. Go on, if you know who stole them turn them in. Jeff

kid koala is hands down one of the best hiphop djs out there. i wouldn't be so mean and throw the idm tag on him though. if you can find his scratchcratchratchatch mix tape from 4 years ago, it is a must buy. better then the 10" which was based on the tape as the tape contains samples not cleared for the official release. kid koala, q-bert, dj noise are my trinity of turntablism. i'd consider kid koala more hip hop than anything, but then again, he could be considered IDM in a loose sense. i haven't heard anything by him though besides his "scratchcratchcratchratch" (or whatever) demo, so maybe his new material is mad crazy cuts over aphex twin beats. dunno :) On Tue, 11 Jul 2000, William W. kid koala has been discussed on this list - he is a turntablist, and actually performs with a live band as well. if you go to our website http://www.ninjatune.net you will see that our front page contains a live performance webcast a month ago from a gig in toronto. he's currently doing the european festivals.. the release section contains snippets from the album and a game, and we have a video in the videos section. kid koala takes reference points from steinski and coldcut, dj shadow, and krush are his peers koala cuts up weird unusual spoken words, familiar sounds and makes them into new ones...when he performs live, he tells the audience he is going to play records badly, actually he creates new sounds from old...i enjoyed the first show so much i got on a plane to amsterdam to see him again with his band. i sent a friend to see him in san francisco, she never saw a dj play with a live band, and enjoyed it immensely & she works with a rock band....

Of course "he's IDM." We've been talking about Ninja Tune on this list for years! As long as we're playing the genre game, I submit to you this theory: Kid Koala is to hip hop as Autechre is to techno On an aside, at the risk of sounding like a cranky old list member, I just did a quick Google search for Kid Koala and came up with 9,230 matches. Newbies, you might want to consider consulting a search engine before emailing your question to literally a thousand people. Heck, you can even listen to samples of Kid Koala's latest album on CDNOW. Yeah, I saw the show in SF as well, and it was great! I really hadn't heard much of his material (except a stream from betalounge from about 2-3 years ago) and I was truely floored by his set. I picked up the bullfrog e.p. as well as the demo mix tape. He is one of the best turntable manipulators out there right now. I also have to say that I was equally floored by his manager (with the braids), she was stunning!......but I digress ;)>

hey pal! I was there! Even though I'm from London I was passing through Boulder with a friend around mid-May and I caught that show! It was fucking brilliant, although I was tempted to leave after an hour of that really boring guy on first. But when koala came on and mixed Jessica Rabbit's song, and made melodies from mucking with record spinning speeds (at least that's what it seemed to me), I was absolutely bould over. :) Koala himself had lots of personality and his band was pretty cool too... Anthony.
