Um... re: that message forwarded on from the Coil list, I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but I'm as good as positive that Crowley died prior to recording technology existing. At the very least the chances of him being recorded onto some surviving phonograph are damn unlikely. Actually, a there is one known recording of Crowley's incantations. It was originally recorded on a wax cylinder circa 1920. The recording circulated the bootleg circuit for years but was pressed on to CD in the early '90s titled Aleister Crowley: The Great Beast Speaks (Disgust #1). The CD is more or less unintelligible.....due to low-fidelity from the original recording and the fact that a few of Crowley's incantations are spoken in Enochian, an magical language discovered by 'John Dee,' who was the magician to the court of queen Elizabeth.....some occultists believe that Enochian is a degenerate form of the language of Atlantis. Here is a track listing from the CD: 1. Intro 2. The Call of the First Aethyr (Enochian Version) 3. The Call of the First Aethyr (English Version) 4. The Call of the Second Aethyr (Enochian Version) 5. The Call of the Second Aethyr (English Version) 6. La Gitana 7. The Pentagram 8. One Sovereign for the Woman 9. The Poet 10. At Sea 11. The Fingernails 12. The Titanic 13. Hymn to The American People 14. Excerts from the Gnostic Mass 15. I believe that there are some spoken word recordings of Crowley floating around that were recorded on wax cylinders. I remember seeing that someone had pressed them on to cd on one of the new releases lists i got a while back. Hey Michael... hows it going... i'm kinda lurking on this list, good to see you here. re: Crowley. Yes there are recordings available, i'm not sure through who. I'm pretty sure some old recordings of Crowley's OTO ritual ceremonies were remastered several years ago and released on CD. Crowley died in 1947. I'm sure Coil have used some of these recordings in the past... I certainly know that Current 93 (associates of Coil) have Crowley-mantra recordings in their earlier works. Aleister Crowley lived from 1875 to 1947. I would say that recording technology was around at that time. However I don't know if Crowley was recorded in any medium. Well, I certainly stand corrected. :-) Thanks for the correct info, and for being civil. Re: the original question, I thought Kit Clayton talked about having someone come in to do the vocals in his interview on Cognition. Unfortunately it's not explicit on this point after all, but it's a good interview anyway. http://techno.ca/cognition/kit.htm Michael np.
