Cylob. 1995.5 / Swimm Vwm 4.3 Skip to the cylob mix. Fucking dist&*!kkrrgg&*orted wickedness. Don't push that button, unless you don't want to life any longer... ends with a 'is this reality' kinda sad perhaps dark but beautifull piano ... I think it's one of the best tracks he has released so far. The Paul Schutze mix seems also to be nice, but i didn't listen the other tracks so much coz i keep playing that Cylob thing....

As far as I know, Immersion is Colin Newman's (ex-Wire) techno project. In a way similar to all the "Drill" versions from a few years back, Newman seems to be interested-in/obsessed-by the process of what happens to a piece of music when you repeatedly re-do it, hand it off to different remixers, etc. Good stuff, anyway. -- dave walker, detroit art services _ marmoset@conch.aa.msen.com born freeke Dave Walker

I like Cylobian Sunset, it's really rather lovely so that's the one I'd recommend. Do bear in mind when you're buying Cylob releases - Cylob can be pretty varied, so if you get one release don't expect everything else to sound like that. The 'Previously unavailable on compact disc' CD is probably the easiest to get hold of. On Cylob's website you can download a couple of MP3s - 'Are we not men who live and die' is a fantastic super warm vocodered tune. Along with Lave Trader and the Ventolin remix, it's amongst his best stuff IMO. 'Lobster tracks' is pretty nifty though. If anyone's got a copy of Cylobian Sunset on CD for sale I'm interested. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Whatever you do Matt, don't get _Living In The 1980's_. It's so awful! A huge disappointment. Painful, worthless, pointless, etc, etc. I've dug Cylob since the beginning and this is just trash! Please Chris [Jeffs], no more like this! Everything else you do is fantastic. What were you thinking?! Talent wasted. Worse than a novelty. Yuck. You've come from _Industrial Folksongs_ to an Exposé tribute band?? Huh? Why? Anyway... as far as good stuff Matt, i think his albums _Cylobian Sunset_ and _Empathy Box_ (as Kinesthesia) are right up your alley. Same goes for the _Lobster Tracks_ ep and _Cylob's Latest Effort_. Well Wells... garbage disposals with nice crunchy beats are what I like to hear. This has got to be my favorite release by him. Very caustic and noisy... to me, this is what Industrial music should have evolved into instead of that awful pain-death-anguish-distorto-vocalslayerguitarsampled- start off with a horror movie sample, end with a horror movie sample crap that became so tiresome. One of my all-time favorite songs is `elephant song' by AFX [first untitled track off of _Analogue Bubblebath 4_]. Music to my ears... `Music That Sounds Like Stoves Talking To Refrigerators' as my friend Chris Meerbott would call it. Also, have you tried playing it at 33.3rpm or lower? Nice nice. I want to share that I think Cylob's Industrial Folksongs is great I wish he'd continue making fucked-up records in this fashion, it's just what you need to alleviate some of the frustration of everyday mundane life, I don't know what it is though about really noisy crunchy industrial type music that my ears seem to allow. Strangely I fell asleep listening to D'Arcangelo - Somewhere In Time the other day and for those who've heard this record it's pretty hard to sleep to especially played loud on headphones (I'm probably going deaf then)... anyway that's another wicked release in a similar fashion to Industrial Folksongs. I was just asking whomever tried to honestly say they enjoy Industrial Folk Songs.. something that seems bizarre to me. And, oh, SDRE is IDM as all hell. Jeremy Enigk uses some sort of modulator on his voice on the new record, AND they use synth pads. So, watch out for the SDRE / Autechre collaboration on the next Warp comp.
