I've always found that 'interesting' music and study are mutually exclusive. I've had some success doing maths to EP7, and some stuff to BoC, but in general the only thing that works is simple, repetitive, poppy techno (Underworld are good) or simple repetitive indie/punk. They've got enough energy to keep me awake and cheerful, but relatively little distraction value. The also have the benefit of being loud enough to remove possible distractions, and provide a predictable environment. In contrast, my one attempt to do chemistry (hard enough to concentrate on at the best of times) to the Orb ended 30 seconds in, when I lost all interest in the work, and drifted off into psychedelic daydreams. It was quite enjoyable, but not entirely productive. david In a message dated 6/17/00 4:38:28 PM GMT Daylight Time, mbm@netcore.ca writes:

hey. studying is foreign to me. but i recently started calling myself a photographer. (distracts one from those effete hunts for love.) heh. anyway. i have a little plastic camera called a holga, and i hav gone out on several outings, i think they're called photo shoots. i manage to listen to cds all the way through, and i think the less melody-centric & danceable the more fitting for the situation. (melodies are good when laying drunk on the bed at nighttime. danceability is good when not in a public space.) you know i didn't realize that i had a dettinger track #2 on accidental repeat mode until about thirty-five minutes later! must've really been in the zone! cool. /graceepoo. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
