I think so. IMHO much better than Marion (Fakesch's solo jerkoff sesh) with some interesting "experiments" like rhymes and other vox. Definitely a few new sounds but it's nothing groundbreaking really. If you thought Addit. Prod. was the toast, then you'll like it. If you weren't into it, pass this up too as it's basically a progression along the same lines. josh -- String Theory : Digital Music for Humans http://www.enteract.com/~yoshi/index.cgi On Mon, 22 May 2000, wells@submute.net wrote:

I *loved* additional productions but the new album just doesn't work IMHO. The vox were a nice idea, unfortunately they are buried under so much noise it's difficult to make them out. The DR video is still cool as hell though. =) At 09:52 AM 5/22/2000 -0500, you wrote:

My sentiments exactly. Very nice vocals that seem lost amongst the beats and electronic trickery. Music and vocals are individually excellent [except the rapping], but together they don't quite work. I think that the mixing on the first track with the MC was the worst on the record. The MC's voice seems to fall within the same frequency range as the beats. Look. I could take the MP3 bashing. I could deal with the bashing of the Autechre Ripoffs. I can deal with all of that, but if idm-l is now going to to turn its hostile crosshairs to Steve Urkel, well, I'm just not going to sit back and let it go. someone needs to tell funkstorung to cut that "hidden track" shit out. it was surprising when we first heard it on a nirvana album in 1992, or that tool abum or that cracker album, etc, etc, etc... but god, it's been done SO many times by now that it's NOT SURPRISING AT ALL anymore. it's just like "oh crap, the last track is 16 minutes long, guess what cd i can never play on shuffle..." and i could see it still being justified, if maybe the "hidden track" was like the best track on the album, or in a completely different style or something... but no. the "secret track" on Disctruction is totally mediocre. not in any way surprising or worth that damn 9 minute wait or the annoyance of having to get up and hold down the "search" button. it's over. it's tired. "secret tracks" = yawn. putting a secret track on your album in the year 2000 is the equivalent of saying "did i do that?" in your best urkel voice to impress people in the year 2000. -rk --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I totally agree on this one. I hate to wait for the music to appear for five-ten-fifteen minutes. That's why when I CDr such albums - I just cut that shit out. Unfortunately on new F-ung it is not a complete silence - if you turn the volume up you could hear a humming noise during the pause. Alien

About loosing the vocals.. it doesn't help that they are mixed WAY too low. (kool keith would have something to say about that) It's just a little painfully obvious that it's Funkstorung creating tracks, then bringing rappers in for studio sessions to do vocals. Somebody pointed out Blackaliscious as some good recent hip-hop, and in sections the instrumentation/loops and sequencing is very contemporary with electronic music. Same goes for anti-pop consortium.. later Andrew -- -| Andrew Schrock | aschrock@cs.brandeis.edu |- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
