With version 1.7.6 you can't do a good volume slide. With version 2.0
the volume and pan knobs are recordable as in ReBirth (with a graphical
editor to fine-tune the slides/variations). Most (if not all) of the
TS-404 knobs are fully recordable as well. So, I suggest that you get
version 2.0 ($99 before December 15). It has a lot of other enhancements
as well, like four more effect channels in addition to the ability to use
DX plugins (in version 1.7.6 there were only four effect channes and only
VST plugin support). The main volume, resonance and cutoff are also
recordable (and I think the shuffle slider, too) in the new version.
The TS-404 sound has been revamped a bit, so your old tracks might
not sound the same anymore, which was a big drawback. Someone asked how
the new sound generation algorithms compare to those in the old version
but there has yet to be a reply. This applies between versions 1.7.6 and
2.0.
I like FL because it is simple, (somewhat :) easy to use and very
powerful piece of software in its price class. It does need quite a bit
of oomph from a computer if you intend to use a lot of samples/effects/
recorded knobs, but hardware is cheap nowadays. Very good value for the
$99 I paid for it.
The effects (DX or VST) are quite expensive (compared to FL itself),
but for very basic stuff e.g. FL's standard delay and reverb are good
enough. The reverb is a bit clunky so I would suggest getting a plug-in
for that, and some compressor/limiter/eq plug-ins are good to have (if
you want to adjust samples separately on-the-fly instead of finalising
them in some sample-editing software).

I use FL even to sequence tracks (especially now with the new version),
but every now and then I use Acid as well (with loops imported from FL,
FL has an export to Acid setting). I have been content with the FL
sequencer when doing software-only tracks, but there are some
limitations in FL itself that drives me nuts at times (like the lack of
decent support for variable time signatures).
For finalising and adjusting samples I use Sound Forge. For finalising
the tracks themselvels I use SF as well, but most of the time I run
the tracks through T-Rack (a standalone compressor/limiter/eq) to
fine-tune the soundscapes.

Acid 2.0 Pro

T-Racks 1.1

Of course Logic Audio Platinum would be the choisest piece of
software for a serious bedroom musician, but the price is a bit
prohibitive for those of us that do not get their end's meet from
dabbling with audio (
http://www.emagic.de/, the price I found was
6995DKR, that would be, um, something like $950). I admit that it
is less than the four mentioned above, but hey, you get four pieces
of software and they do the job well enough for us not-so-very-serious
bedroom musicians :).
This has _not_ been a product endorsement :)
Cheers,
