Last time I was on Warpnet, there was a two minute excerpt from the new Squarepusher album in RA format. Pretty strange Mahavishnu/Mwandishi style stuff. I'm looking forward to more.

thanks for the review posted to the list ... we heard a promo last night, and it completely blew me away as well ... and while i can see a few of the references to Can, Add N To X, and Shadow on it, the music it is really indebted to is early 70s electric jazz: Miles (Agharta, Dark Magus, Live/Evil, Big Fun etc.), Herbie Hancock (Mwandishi stuff like Sextant, Crossings, more than Headhunters) and Zawinul/Weather Report (say, Sweetnighter) ... in places it's a carbon copy, but in a creative way - he's taken the sounds, textures, and feel of the music ... and the fundamental darkness of it ... but avoided most of the interminable solos ... and expanded it with some more contemporary inventions ... but there's no doubt what he's drawing from ... he also seems to be 'playing' a lot of 'live' stuff on it too - fantastic keyboards and drumming as well as the bass of course ... it is completely brilliant (imho) - best thing he's done ... cheers, dan. ---+ dan hill [state51] ---+ new reviews on motion [03.9.98]: < dowe/thaemlitz | new phunk theory | darkroom | mason jones | lambchop > http://www.state51.co.uk/motion/ +---

Its got some really GREAT moments on it. It also has a few tracks that sound like he's just dicking with rebirth on them. If you take the last three eps and used some quality control you probably could squeeze a good album out of them.
