The John Foxx/Visage/Ultravox
powerhouse produced some seminal new wave.
Visage is a name that comes up again and again
when you talk to Detroit's heavy hitters, for example,
a name that doesn't get mentioned as often as Depeche
Mode, New Order, and Kraftwerk.
John Foxx left Ultravoxx early on and produced
some brilliant material on Metalbeat/Virgin. Grab
"Metamatic" (the album) from him on sight. The cut
"Plaza" on there inspired Adam Lee Miller (of Adult,
Ersatz Audio label, etc) to start his Monoplaza imprint. Midge
Ure started doing more and more with Ultravox
and eventually went solo. Definitely give this material
a listen if you're given the chance. andrew duke
