While we are on the subject... ME TOO, ME TOO, ME TOO!!! SEND ME MUSIC FOR REVIEW IN XLR8R!!! I write techno and house reviews for XLR8R, and I am always open to receiving material for review. You can e-mail me at forestgreenbean@yahoo.com or phone me at 415.776.1643, but give me a few days from receipt to check the stuff out. Oh, this one gets the dipshit award for today. I don't know what's more pathetic: a person writing for a small zine in the UK begging for review material or a hack living in the biggest music-industry state writing for a graphic-ass-beautiful US magazine begging like a gimp for freebees from, admit it, the small-ass labelheads watching these lists. Give me a fucking break. Actually, maybe I'm the most pathetic, because I write reviews for Rolling Stone and I shouldn't stoop to this crass level. Go bug Alison at Astralwerks or Susan at Nothing, freakshow, and stop this worthless waste of bandwidth. The Dark Swan

Oh come on, it's fun sending your 12"s to music mags that are never gonna review them. I just haven't sent in ours to Rolling Stone because I know that they won't even think to review it, whereas magazines like Urb, I would think we stood a chance... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Damn what with all the angst on this list lately. Everyone has become mad trigger happy. I'd rather see people from bigger mags showing some interest instead of the usual apathy. I am curious why you find it necessry to insult someone. You might have a point here (which in my opinion you don't) but all semblance of it is lost when you call someone a dipshit. But let us take a look at your argument. You suggest the writer contact the larger and more established electronic labels. Perhaps the writer wants to write about a release that take chances. He or she is not going get that type of release from the labels you mentioed. Of course that is a generalization but for the most part those labels release what is more marketable. There are exceptions (Innerzone Orchestra comes to mind). So in order for that person to get such a release they need to get promos from "small-ass labelheads". And because these "small-ass labelheads" are not high profile, the best way to do that is through a list such as this.

/ placing tongue in cheek Yes rolling stone magazine. A fine piece of journalism that is far more concerned with good music from independents than crass commercial music. Yes they are big defenders of all things experimental / removing tongue from cheek if you did "stoop to this crass level" you might actually get to write about something new and exciting. But instead gentle reader you get to read reviews of: Savage Garden - Affirmation Marilyn Manson - The Last Tour on Earth Various Artists - VH1 Divas Live/99 all of the above have or are appearing in rolling stone. Personally, I would rather "stoop to this crass level" than review Various Artists - VH1 Divas Live/99. I think your reply proves my point. The point being: "You might have a point here (which in my opinion you don't) but all semblance of it is lost when you call someone a dipshit." (in reference to your idm post) this is why when I first read your post that you came off like a pompous ass. I did not see any real argument and couldn't even clearly see what you were saying. In fact you looked more like the insult than the person you insulted (no offense meant). However, if you had initially posted something that was similar to your reply to me instead of what you did, I would not have had issues with what you said. A lot of what you say does make sense and most (if not all) of it I agree with. And I do agree the original poster should have taken a less direct route. My contacts with magazines have all been through exchanges that started off as simple correspondence. But I do want to make a little correction. Just because you live in California does not mean you have access to everything us small label owners put out. In fact a person would have had better luck finding our first release in Japan than America. The reason I mention this is because a lot of people do not understand why items are scarce. For us it was because the foreign distributors were more supportive than the domestic ones. The fact that our items end up in domestic magazines increases our chances of getting picked up by American distributors. But for the most part I agree with what you say. But next time watch the insults. Destroys even the best arguments. -daniel: Head Monkey: Mad Monkey Records: http://monkey.eliteware.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

YOU have NO FUCKING IDEA what MY LIFE is like, and why I do what I do, and why I asked people to send me demos, and for your information I barely scrape by doing what I do, simply because I love it, so why don't you shut the fuck up before you know what the hell is up!!! WORD!!!

I am not begging, and why do you have to resort to name calling to try to belittle me? Pretty sorry! I am letting artists know that this vehicle is there for them if they want it, and it is their choice if they want it or not, but it is out there for them! I am sincerely interested! I personally put every bit of my free time into music in one way or another, and as a matter of fact, I recently have been "demoted" here at my fabulous little corporate america job, because I spend so much time doing work I really believe in, music related work, that DOES NOT PAY (or when it does, it isn't much), but I do it because I believe in it, and I love it, and it is my life! I too continue to try to make ends meet in my pursuit of my art and my love, but it is not easy! I happen to have just chosen a fork in the road, that certainly seems to be the one less traveled, and I have chosen it because it is my love, so it is interesting that this jaded letter came from you now of all times that it could have come. Say whatever you want Dark Swan. I am strong, and I know why I do what I do, and you can never take that away from me nor stop my journey. My intentions and my actions speak louder than any words you could ever say! Time will tell, time will tell.

It happens to be the small labels that I am most interested in helping to promote! I am down with the DIYers, and I am one myself!!! I CARE more than you will ever know Mr. Dark Swan. Why don't you try reading my techno review of Chair Recordings in XLR8R issue 38 for example. Also, for your information, no one at XLR8R is growing fat and rich off of that publication! Those cats work their asses off, and are constantly out and about at everything! Once again you have no idea. Your comments are completely ignorant and unfounded!

Yes, maybe you are, and maybe you are bitter, sorely mis-informed, and completely without compassion or a drop of love in your whole being too!!! What is a person like you doing writing about MUSIC of all things anyways???!!! What a JERK you are!!!
quoted 4 lines Go bug Alison at Astralwerks or Susan at Nothing,> > Go bug Alison at Astralwerks or Susan at Nothing, > freakshow, and stop this > worthless waste of bandwidth.
I am interested in small labels, and in music that I think is pushing us forward, or also just simply kicks ass on the dance floor! I don't want to bug Alison or Susan, but thanks for the name dropping. I wanted to ask the artists of communities of people who are part of a larger community and movement that, I too am a part of, and I want to see grow and flourish. I want to push forward the school of thought and social consciousness of sharing and helping one another in our artistic pursuits... In bringing art and love back to the masses, where it is so needed these days!!! In bringing hope for a true happiness back to us all, not these bullshit lies of a happiness you can buy from an ad on TV! I want to help push forward these artist and provide them larger recognition, and expose the voice that they pour out from deep within, because they must!!! I do this because I love it, and because I believe in music, art, and these artists! Maybe this is just something you simply cannot comprehend, and that is why you wrote this ignorant letter. Here's wishing enlightenment, peace, and love to you in the rest of your "dark" life Mr. Dark Swan! May you one day find happiness! =) Love, Forest "I do it for the joy it brings, cause I'm a joyful girl, cause the world owes me nothing, we owe each other the world. If I had wanted your life story, I would have rented the movie...and if I'd wanted to make it personal, I'd have made fun of your name. Either way, Robert Zemeckis probably wouldn't have taken too kindly to it, "and that's all I have to say about tha-at." And it's not Mr. Dark Swan, dipshit. You don't know about MY life, you DON'T know what I go through, and you CAN'T IMAGINE how much this means to me. It's Ms. So get your gender issues straightened out before you know what the fuck is up. WORD!!! (c'mon, you can do better than that, can't you?) On to the slaughter: I know people who write and edit for XLR8R, and I know just how many slots you're likely to get for reviews. It's not hard to check the credits and see that you just started writing for XLR8R. And it's not hard to count the number of reviews you had in Is. 38, either (you ain't exactly Tomas, who's calling the shots). What is annoying is your mass email, riding the coattails of XLR8R's good name in order to get free music you *may* get to review. This is the public domain; have some fucking respect for the other aficionados on these lists, and keep the business side to yourself. Labels and artists are selling music/art, and that's why they post to the list; as a journalist, you're not selling anything--you're a sounding board for what's good and what's bad. If you *are* selling anything, it's only yourself: "oh look at me and my fantastical words...I'm the patron saint of the small and DIY!" It's not about you, The XLR8R Writer of Techno Reviews, it's about the music. There are too many writers running around playing like they're God's gift to artists and "the scene." Come off it. you're obviously not a dark swan, so why does it matter so much whether someone calls you a he or a she, when there's obviously no possible way to know? or maybe even dark swans go through 'that time of the month', eh? also, your use of the word 'dipshit' is getting a bit overkill, i'd say. care to get back on civilized grounds for once? this is not the limp bizkit fanlist. ~ david --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
