I heard $5000, and the disks are $20 a peice. This is not so expensive if these are stereo dub plates (I assume they are stereo devices because the of the two 45 degree angle thingies on the tonearm-etch-thingie ;) ) Wouldn't it be ironic if Technics(aka panasonic) then undermined *them* with a cheaper model? I just had this horrible image of Costco selling shrink-wrapped packs of 200 dub plates. Yikes! cid. www.rodlogic.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I've heard upwards of $2000 with each slab costing enough to make it cheaper to get dubplates. However, I suppose eventually you would save money, either way it's a revolution, I'll be saving and buying one on launch day. Can you say "Sounds of Jon eating" on vinyl?! yep, the blanks Vestax will be selling in packs that work out to about $10 - $15 each (ie per "record"), with about 10 minutes per side. andrew duke Magicnerd8@aol.com wrote:

this. Not extremely cost effective for large pressings but for dublates, something like this would be amazing. Rob --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Just imagine bringing one of these to a live show: a scratch dj for instance can scratch 12"s of the performance of a dj who played earlier that night and one-off records from the show can be auctioned on stage at the end of the night. The records might not be of the highest quality, but if you were a scratch dj, you could condense the 30 individual records of material you wanted to use/manipulate into one dub plate for a lot less. I'd expect few people would buy it, but that they would sell the service of pressing dub plates to cover the investment. If I could get a dub plate that lasted 30-50 playings and only pay $30-40 and it was stereo, hi-fidelity, I'd start planning my first 5 dub plate masters (cdr) right now! Hmm, imagine the one-off lock-grooves and weird mastering experiments when people start tweaking these devices ... I produce probably 1-2 tracks a week, out of which maybe 1 in 5 would be worth including on a dub plate. I would be able to dj sets of my own music mixed with mu record collection beyond the few records I'm already on. For me, being able burn my music on cdr is cool, but only so far because I've always been into vinyl manipulation and already have the tools (2xsl1200 turntables and a nice mixer) whereas I've never had (or much liked) the cd-mixing tools I've ever played with, just not physical enough! The idea that I could hit record on a vinyl press, start a pattern on a drum machine, sit down on my drumset and play along (mic'ed) and then get up and scratch the record (do they need to cool off or 'dry'?) along with the same drum machine is pretty fing mindblowing considering what I was limited to 10 years ago when I didn't even have an affordable sampler! maybe it is a bigger deal if you have a sentimental attachment to records, because I could see it seeming a little unneccessary if you're really ok with cd media and don't like vinyl records or didn't grow up playing them.
