I agree with a lot of your comments the elitism rather prevalent on this list (a major factor in putting off Sean/Rob I bet) but what's that about having to like heavy metal to be cool?!? I was 18-19 in 87/88 and I can honestly say that at no point in my life have Def leppard or Bon Jovi ever been seen to be "cool", especially in the more fad obsessed sections of UK media. The bands you mention later as sparking your interest in electronic textures such as New Order were always far "cooler" in this part of the world...and with bloody good reason. It's one of the things that makes the music scene very different over here than over there (not better, different). Propaganda reforming is interesting news - I first saw them playing live on the Tube tv programme and performing in German with about 3 sets of percussion I think. Claudia Brucken was wearing one of those telephone wire dresses of hers and soon after the combination of their music with superb ZTT production and a subversive stance led to the inspiring "A Secret Wish" album. The instrumental remix album (for the footsteps and heartbeats of connoisseurs) was good too. Adam Huffman talked about Orbital becoming boring but it's been the opposite with me - I find their livesets have got better not worse in recent years, both musically and visually. Ae fascinate in audio and visuals are not relevant (except the ones sparking in your head). I remember them being mistaken by most of the crowd as lighting crew during a brilliant Manchester performance in support of Orbital a few years ago. North or South? No contest. London can be a good place to sample it all though...... Mine's a bitter, Jackanory Jonny ps - what is the last CJ Bolland CD (4th Sign I think) like? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
