The myth lives on, haha. What setup do they have? Lets see, a computer, samplers, synths, drum machines and a few old vintage keyboards and effects. I now have images of blah-blah sitting in a chair arms folded with a rack of gear in the background in "Sound on Sound". Apparently BoC will never do that, thank God. How abhorent. ----- Original Message ----- From: Adam Hodgins <baldguys@baynet.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, November 12, 1999 5:30 AM Subject: (idm) Boards Of Canada Setup Hello I was reading a breakdown of the BOC history at... http://imusic.com/showcase/indie/boardsofcanada.html and saw this...

Yeah, I heard the same thing from someone who had spoken to them personally. He said they used the Casio cs-101 a lot or at least that they did on MHTRTC. That may not be true but I know you can get some great sounds out of that thing if you know how to program it. Apparently, they do. Pretty cool if it's true. klunko aka yet another matt PS> I have mp3s of my music up at http://www.lclark.edu/~mcwright if anyone wants to listen to them and provide me with some much needed feedback. I'm confused now. I thought the original poster was referring to the Roland SH-101, not the Casio. It's weird that this comes up though, because I bought a Casio CZ-101 last week on ebay, based on information I had heard that it makes some EXTREMELY odd sounds. (And also has a tendency to change the parameters on patches by itself if it is unplugged for two long, producing crazy sounds which go beyond editable levels). However, I tend to think it's a SH-101 merely for the fact that I had always thought of the BOC sound as very analog sounding, which the Roland is and the Casio is not.... As an owner of an SH-101, I would tend to think its an SH-101. You can get some sounds like they use out of it. Rob

Just to throw another spoke in the wheels, I've found that a Roland Alpha Juno can make very BOC washy sounds... It's mainly in the way its detuning works, although I'm sure many other synths sound similar in that respect.
