Well, since the list seems to be fairly full of bizarre (and occasionally stupid) threads at the moment (sorry, I've made my last DXM post :), I thought I'd actually talk about IDM. No, not the music, the name. Has anyone actually noticed how difficult it is to "dance" to most of this stuff? I mean, its not dance music at all. I have to say, it is a completely absurd name, I feel embarassed using it to describe Autechre et al. Whoever came up with it probably meant "Intelligent Electronic Music", but assumed that everyone into electronic music was into the club/rave/other dance scene.... I never go to clubs. Well, not here anyway. Its all just crap house, played far too loud, full of shallow obnoxious people. I like to sit at home and listen to good music. Thats right, sitting down... actually LISTENING to music instead of just bouncing around counting to four... So, anyway, thats my little rant... any thoughts? Anyone got a suggestion for a better name? I don't mind the term braindance... it kind of implies "dancing in your mind", which is how good interesting music makes me feel... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i agree, i often wondered where the term came from? if you read this lance, let us know... you can't dance to most of it, and i think most of the ppl into IDM aren't dancers anyhow? if i am not seeing it live, and around here (cleveland) there are no clubs that spin IDM...i mostly too enjoy listening to it @ home, on headphones sometimes too. how about ILM? Intelligent Listening Music i wonder if that'll stick greg ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Check the archives, this topic has come up at least three times since I've been on this list and that's only 9 months. Resolution? None. List members getting ornery over seeing such chud come up again? Lots! Np: Newskin 4, the best "IDM" you'll never hear, cuz it's too "dirty". -DISCOURSE ABORTED- "It's how you feel." "It's how I feel." "It's how you feeeeeeel." "That's how I feeeeel." -Jon --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

I tell people what IDM stands for and they look at me like huh?! where's the connection? Dance? Intelligence? You call this Music??? Ha Ha heh heh heh..... shim1 p.s - I really like ILM. it works for me. I tend to just say "I Like Electronic Music" though... Twine sound wrote:
