i'm just curious about this thing & i figure, this list needs some action so what the hell. :) do you have any ethics in what music you buy, what artists you support? (that is, independently of whether you like the music or not) i.e. what do you do with an artist you know has an ego the size of texas & pretends to have invented techno ~ or one who has a huge attitude problem & cannot stand a single criticism regarding what they do? would you keep buying their albums? would your interest in them remain the same? another concern: if an artist made music for a commercial, where would you draw the line? (i know that although i'm not against music used for advertising per se, i personally wouldn't buy or support anything from someone sountracking g*p or n*ke commercials, for example ~ if only as a means of protest regarding their third world employment 'policies', but, like all of ethics, that's essentially a personal decision ~ albeit one that does have social repercussions. ) btw ~ in this message, i mean ethics in the personal sense: a personal choice based on rational thinking, a democratic thing. i do not mean a dogma. so, what are your ethics? :) -- david

Kind of related to this thread I suppose, did anyone know that BoC did a car commercial with Chris Cunningham? I think it was only shown in Europe (not the UK), has anyone seen it? Anyone have it on tape for that matter? BoC doing a car commericial, Leftfield doing a Guiness commercial ... Sell out or no sell out? I don't know, I think after seeing the tyre commercial that had AFX on it year ago, I knew it was a good thing. You didn't hear any of AFX's music on the tele up until that point, but it worked. I think the point is, that it was more acceptable to people in that context, rather than it appearing in its usual form as a video on a chart show. Strange ... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Tough call. One can certainly understand the motivations: by licensing music for a few ads, one can be financially secure enough to make non-commercial music. Ironic, no? It's still prostitution, of course. Just like most of life under capitalism. Regards, 3

I think the standard fee is a 5 figure sum for a minute of music. If I was given the freedom to do the music I wanted I would accept in 3 seconds flat. I am sure everyone else would too, if they didn't have that sort of money already.
