i think there's actually only one or two kid606 tracks on it. and those are matured much from the stuff on techniques (which is some top notch stuff to begin with). he's a very talented, driven guy. don't think he's given enough credit for that. looking forward to his ipecac release w/great anticipation, regardless of number/sub-distribution/etc... my god that lexaunculpt track is good. what's he been up to lately?

'attitude', as in the misfits cover on side b. limited to 1200 (300 per territory, double for recent repress), get it today. thank (g)od for the persistence of the 45's format.

i love early pink floyd (syd). and the movie 'more' (mimsy farmer's in my dreams). i like the track alot, it was a challenge to re-create it. i was mostly interested in the constant bird sounds in the background. and the beautiful organ progression. at the end, i tried to make something as peaceful as birdsong into something really agressive, it's a very painful tune. i actually improvised that part. i used the phaser that the pipe organ runs through and re-channeled the birds through it with higher resonance to create that whining car-alarm like sound. and some gain of course, and reverb. i like the way it turned out, very simple. i was going to fade it out but then i realized it's a nice note to end the cd on. it's on there, unedited. i enjoy listening to it.

the former is the most adequate i'd say. industrial folksongs totally rocks but sounds very little like its title. the stuff on mp3.com is like very early stuff with a sort of naivete that's missing these days. i can't say much of it is very good, it's just on there cuz i like listening to it every now & then & hate searching through dat's to find it all. some of it's very bad, ludicrous even.

i think downpour's remix of steward is the best example of this (on a 7" on the french orgasm label, also the domestic (us) darla steward cd). it's very nice. all sequencing is about how much effort you're willing to put into it. a loop is a loop, and if it sounds good we'll listen to it for awhile. it'd be even better if you changed that little bit every 5 bars or so, or added that 32nd note triplet trill that leads up to the next bar, or maybe added that stutter to the snare that makes it sound like it's falling down stairs (never get sick of that one). maybe filter a few of the hits, or pitch bend them. or even punch in random vst plugins at odd intervals, when you don't expect them. or bring in a completely different loop entirely. or make the one you are using slightly louder or softer, or randomise the volume of it from bar to bar to make it more 'linear'. but these are all just production tricks, you do this sort of thing after you already have something resembling a piece of music, no matter how conceptual. or you could just let it loop if it's a really good loop, add in like 10 other loops until it's really good, quiet, almost subliminal ones. fine either way... -våt -- _________________________ reckankreuzungs klankewerkzeuge box 382864 cambridge ma 02238 http://www.reckankomplex.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
