Superb, excellent, and splendiferous. But don't take my word on it, go to: http://freespace.virgin.net/kung.funk/ This is the one IDM release that actually does mix in some hip hop flavor, unlike all the recent reviews of Autechre and PBO that promise a "hip hop" sound that just isn't there (either that or it is so buried in the mix, you can't really hear it anyway). All lies. Horse Opera however is the real OG shit. Too bad Stevie is too busy to drop many more sounds lately. Though I hear he is considering contributing to an upcoming remix album..... :) JJTar, still wondering what he should do. np: Chumbawamba/Negativland. "Where have the Teletubbies gone?" ...As a professional ChildCareProvider, I will say that Barney kicks it 10x more real than those squigly little Tubbies. --- Peace Hugs and Unity Jason J. Tar W. W. dunno what your hoping to hear, but ae and pbo definitly have a strong hiphop influence that shows up in their work. they may lean more towards the electro side of hiphop, but it's there. tomas np: low - the curtain hits the cast

i think he was hoping to hear what my man the operator is bringing to the party...brilliant electronics combined with a real sense of hip hop...you know, things like funk...groove..innovation...but without any 'yeah...its hip hop, cos you know i listen to hip hop, and i used to hang out with my crew and our piece of cardboard on the corner...hey, i even got dizzy from paint fumes once..' fuck that...that was '82... as for the web site...the virgin.net site will most likely remain as it is.... operations have moved to.. www.pr0k.com only a front page at the mo....but soon....

well, i agree about autechre fitting in this catagory (with the exception of 'mag') and horse opera having a real sense of hip hop, but the first PBO 12" really does have funk and groove, and innovation, but the rest of his stuff is just rubbish. trust me i love 'real' hip hop, and i can tell you that this does fall into the catagory. that said, here's something that's been bothering me for quite a while, does anyone know where the vocal sample on PBO's 'striffle' is from, i know the 'lockligger' 'no offense to a player..' is De La, and the 'mic check' on the gescom remix is bahamadia's 'three the hard way', but where's that striffle one from, i know i've heard it before...

excellent, the allstars 12" was one of my favorites. btw, what's the possibility of me still finding one of the D.I.A.L. 12"s, i slept on this for quite a while and recently dug out a tape of this someone gave to me a long ways back, and i'd really like to get a hold of one...

I know what I want to hear, I want to hear some fucking beats that make my neckbone snap. I don't give a damn about influences, just pop up the compression on some rhythm chunks and cause a disturbance. Autechre? Push Button Objects? Bleep. If you're gonna try some hip hop in your little arrangements then it had better hop. Just because the song goes under 110 BPM doesn't mean a damn thing. Insomnia, back again with a vengeance Tom

(Daniel Beattie), its called DROOL by D.J.Beattie (i think) and its out very soon... nice sleeve as well...bit of a change from the norm... martin gwpcu> That DIAL ep is great - bit of a shock as it's got no drills at all, more gwpcu> like congas and stuff and a very individual approach to tunes. gwpcu> : excellent, the allstars 12" was one of my favorites. btw, what's the gwpcu> : possibility of me still finding one of the D.I.A.L. 12"s, i slept on this gwpcu> : for quite a while and recently dug out a tape of this someone gave to me gwpcu> a gwpcu> : long ways back, and i'd really like to get a hold of one... gwpcu> : gwpcu> assuming that the dial inquiry is directed towards martin, but good luck in gwpcu> finding it, as its well worth the effort. is a favorite and still gets play gwpcu> here gwpcu> fairly regularly. %
