Recently got my copy of Mandell's "Drifting" CDR. Since I've seen little discussion about it on the list, I was curious as to what other people's thoughts on it were? In my opinion, it works very well as a sound or a DJ tool, but it's a rather challenging listen, even as background ambience. Mike.

Drifting? isnt it called Healing? regardless, i really enjoy it and have used it as a dj tool on a recent inaudible show. For those who havent heard it yet, it's a 1-track 74 minute piece of deep gurgling experimental ambience which very much reminded me of the Juno Reactor/Orb - Luciana album (the only Juno Reactor record i still own). For those expecting Mandel material akin to his lucky kitchen or worm interface releases, you may want to listen to this one first. But for those who enjoy very deep subtle experimental ambient stuff, this cd is excellent! -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Sounds like something I would love to bits. Too bad it's limited to 100 fucking copies and I have no idea where I can get my hands on one!!! Grrrrr. Greg

Greg if it wasn't too much of a hassle you could get it from Other Music in NYC. They have a few, that's where I got mine...I think they do online orders too...it is quite nice too, though a chellanging listen even as background ambient... On Fri, 25 Jun 1999, Greg Clow wrote:

be warned, this release is VERY subtle and minimal, a glacial beating heart mantra with some cool but very subdued stuff going on in the background of the chanting pulse. even the liner notes describe the piece as "sounds to listen by" , not "music to listen to". quality stuff, but definitely way ambient, and nothing like any of jake's other releases to date. should be a pretty cool set of 12 once they're all out, but you may have to listen to 'healing' several times to convince yourself it's not repetitive. peeeeeece, -- Jeff Davis pHlow@earthlink.net fn:216.533.6303 fx:216.266.2310 text:2165336303@mobile.att.net pHlow.linx: home.earthlink.net/~phlow/ Bochum Welt: www.bochumwelt.com Rotator Locator: hyperreal.org/music/rotator/
