OK, so can anyone tell me about OST? I heard his track on the Emanated compilation and was impressed.. went to see him at the Insight show last week.. and his live set was very interesting.. did anyone else catch it? It was very abstract amd drone-y.. a bit of a messy sample soup, that he seemed to be manipulating with a drawing tablet.. quite interesting tho at times he hit some frequencies/volumes that were a bit painful, I was sure we were going to see one of the speakers fly out of the cabinets.. I just picked up his cd on Dial and was wondering if he had any other CDs out and what the thoughts were. Also caught Kit Clayton @ the Insight event.. also very interesting, I have a bunch of his records off of Cytrax and His Mimic and the Model, and was expecting something dubby laidback.. what followed was about an hour and a half or so of really noisy stuff, seemed quite improvised.. good, yet he never really let anything take shape into a complete piece.. it seemed that he got bored with the beat really quickly and kept changing it.. thoroughly enjoyable, although he did clear the gallery :) .. when everyone had finally left he played a bit of his usual stuff.. a very enjoyable evening. jsin

I'm a big fan of OST as well... OST/Rook Valard has a few other cd releases out on the Phthalo label: . Rook Valard: Systematic Desensitization cd (Phthalo) . OST: Live @ Static cd (Phthalo) Plus there are previously unreleased Rook Valard tracks on the Alt.Frequencies vols 2&3 compilation cds. I hear that there are upcoming OST cds on the Dial, Phthalo, and Worm Interface labels so more is on the way!

Kit Clayton has an excellent experimental album released on the Phthalo label under the his 4mod3 guise called A Moment of Simplicity that is probably a lot like what you heard at his live show. There are also promos out now for an upcoming live Kit Clayton release called "Live @ CCAC 3/11/99" but i dont know what label this one will be out on. It's also in the freeform experimental style which you described. The bottom line is Kit is a very versitile producer that can produce excellent music for both the floor as well as the davenport! i think you've got these mixed up. Kit Clayton was manipulating stuff with the tablet, not OST. OST sounds are also available on pthalo under the recording alias: Rook Velard(sp?) (also Worm Interface) Perez wrote:

i was looking through old stuff and found this one. may have a bit more info on these two, or maybe just a little more confusion. ost put out a 12" back in the days when he was hanging around the reflective records warehouse. i'm not entirely sure what label it was on as he only showed me the white label. this was probably 3-4 years ago. it may have been worm interface but i'm not sure. in any case he has stuff on worm interface and mille plateaux. i'm sure he has other releases but i don't know which labels. kit klayton just put out a 12" on jason william's(vellocette, the original vellocette, not the band) label called parallel recordings. this is in addition to his mimic and the model stuff which is super. the 12" is called the angular adventures of kit klayton. it's good, i yike it! also has 2 lock grooves on it. you can find it at finer record stores around the country. hope this helps. don r what did the buddhist monk say to the hot dog vendor? make me one with everything. -anonymous

I am aware of two OST eps from that era on the Switch & Qlipothic labels. Maybe it's one of those two? And you mention that he has done some stuff on Mille Plateaux? What releases are those?

Kit also had a previous release on Parallel... That would be the collaborative ep between Jason Williams & Kit Clayton called I-Liner: Beltway ep on Parallel (PRL-003) and it's quite good as well. I "think" that one had a few lock grooves as well... -->-Lance--- mclance@nacs.net lance@inaudible.com p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Since we're on the subject of OST, I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question I've been dying to ask. I picked up an unlabeled test pressing by OST a while back and i was wondering if it ever made it to a final pressing and if so, what it was. All I know is that it's on Erika Records Inc. and that one side is one long track and the other side contains 4 tracks. If there are any hadcore OST heads out there, i could even make a 30 second Real Audio clip and email it to you to identify. thanks, darren
