Jean-Francois: Thanks for the heads up on ab-cd.com (didn't know about that one). you mentioned Autechre: they've got a double ep out June 7th on Warp called EP7. 10 tracker of mostly downtempo electronics, plus a couple of uptempo numbers. Good stuff, as is the new album from labelmates Plaid (Rest Proof Clockwork; 15 tracker with their usual quirky links and a bucketload of funk, most at instrumental hip hop speed, but there's an electro cut that would fit in a regular ol' electro set and a nice downtempo techno number too. The biggest thing I noticed was that there's quite a bit of scratching on this, but I don't have any info on who's doing it. Chris? Greg? Anyway, it's out June 21, check it out). Thanks. Andrew Duke :) john kennedy wrote:

heard bits of the plaid album last night. From what I heard I was impressed. My complaint that plaid when not remixing has no emotion is no longer applicable (at least to the bits I heard). Lots of funk on this one. I listened to the nothing CDR promo so it should be available state side. Also, listened to the new autechre (again a CDR promo on nothing) and I liked it. Not as dense as LP5 but some of the same thoughts/ideas (definitely evolved though) are there. And I do agree that there is a definite down tempo/hip hop feel (though it is really twisted). I have really been enjoying autechre's output since the envane ep (probably more so than their earlier output). It is amazing that we have all these bands who sound like autechre while autechre doesn't sound like autechre anymore. -daniel Head Monkey Mad Monkey Records http://monkey.eliteware.com

Daniel: I wish Autechre would do more material at an electro tempo. You can only pitch stuff down or up so much! I used to play *a lot* of Autechre out in electro sets years back, but the new stuff is either quite downtempo or quite uptempo. The first track is likely to make it into an electro set of mine, but the rest... Psychosomatic, the track Danny Low Res/Crank Zelonky and Juan Atkins did on the Model 500 album, Mind And Body, is a perfect example, for me, of material that is not straight up electro, but at an electro tempo and adds a nice bit of spice to a techno electro set.
