Diskono's adventure began at the Glasgow Art Carnival in 1994 with the
meeting of
3 teenage artists : Barnes Advocaat (now Docktor), Joel Ongthorne, Ruth
Random.
As it happens they are a romantic triangle, but you would never know it from
their
gang-like similalirty, their definatly androgynous collusion against the
world.
Ruth dominated, as she does to this day, wearing a low-slung black t-shirt
and a black
leather suit. Both men were wearing typical student thrift shop fare : art
school scarfs,
khaki denims, wooly jumpers and duffle coats.
Haircuts? Think of a Greek statue, think of Michelangelo's David; picture
this hairstyle.
Jean Cocteau put it in La belle et la bete; Jean Marais had this hairstyle
but shorter.

Starting off with the templates of drum and bass but tweeking them
beyond recognition, Lesser's music delivers crunchy snares and
overdriven bass frequencies with a heaping helping of skeptical humor,
gritty digital noise, and DIY instrument-building ingenuity. Soldering
together new instruments out of the refuse of 80's mixers and synths, J
Lesser avoids the standard sounds and strategies in favor of a
confrontational, schizophrenic and often hilarious rethinking of
conventional "intelligent" electronic dance music.
