on [x][y] (somewhere) is a kind of clapping, crowd noise rhythmn which turns into a brief trad. song. a similar thing appears on "bored w/ the usa" - is this setsue and underwood? they had a cd on lucky kitchen which is unavailable i think, but they've been doing represses in plainer packaging of some of their stuff. anyone know where i can get a copy? who does the cut - up of "bankrobber"? wonderful & hilarious. did i see somewhere that felix kubin has a full length cd out now or soon? any info? thanks -martin

If you find a source for the Setsue & Underwood release on Lucky Kitchen please let me know because i would definitely like a copy of it too.

That is Office Products, a duo of which I am half. Thanks, and I'm glad you share our sense of humor. We are a turntable/guitar improv duo and have 2 cds available through www.anomalousrecords.com, and should soon have a web page link of sorts at www.syncopated.net/~solenoid ...our recordings should soon be available in mp3 form there. I should warn you that our cd's are incredibly difficult to sit all the way through in a single sitting because of the fast cutup/scratch collage processing going on. I suggest hearing only 4-5 minutes a day, perhaps during breakfast instead of reading the cereal box. Office Products have dug a hole somewhere between Plunderphonics and Otomo Yoshide. I think we are very careful and intentional in our recordings and have recently moved more toward computer editting tools from 3 years of free-improv turntable/guitar/electronics. I am particularly into cartoon voice talent and sound effects and incorporating more Daws Butler and Don Messick syllables, fwiw. Since you share our sense of humor, I recommend that you check out Stock Hausen and Walkman's early stuff and Evolution Control Committee and other EErie Materials label. Also, People Like Us other works are incredible... onnow: "Mr Jinks, Pixie and Dixie" (cdr of 1956 Hanna Barbera record) Solenoid

I wish I knew what people see in Evolution Control Committee. I got one of their tapes ages ago (the first time I tried to start my label) and thought it was awful, couldn't keep a song together, premises were tired, etc. Since then, I've heard that song where they combine Herb Alpert and Public Enemy on a local alternative show. I just don't get them. They're not all that funny, and the music is executed so poorly, it grates my nerves. Ah well. NP: the sound of 2 computers in my cube

I specifically meant the 7" of Public Enemy and Herb Alpert in my recommendation of that label, as that label's output is all I know about. I thought that this 7" matched the sense-of-humor-side of like-minded music (Office Prod.) I don't know about their other work, but that 7" is an entertaining record to mix and a good comment on music copyright (making something new via appropriation). Even when production isn't that great, good ideas can still get their point across... Solenoid
