Well, look what happens! I don't turn on my computer for one day, and then there's a full-on dub thread going with a slew of mails :-) Y'all know I can't help myself, so here's my input - which may well overlap with what's been said already. DUBNOLOGY - Journeys into Outer Bass which originally came out as 2 double CD sets, are now released as a 4-pack - ie. both doubles in one neat package, covering Zion Train, Black Star Liner, Asian Dub Foundation, TG Underground, Meat Beat M., Dread Zone, Renegade Soundwave etc. etc. ALL these above names are worth checking out on their own full-lengths too. [Middle Earth Recordings]. Another series of comps which never gets mentioned much are the ZIP DOG "Club Meets Dub" - which I think are up to vol 5 at least by now. Great solid Li-on, Zi-on rootsy stuff infected with dance rhythms. All with a nice specimen of the cannabis leaf on the cover. On the Pork label the Solid Doctor is nice downtempo lazy dub. Please check out STRANGEBREW (Passports is their most recent release) - certainly one of my fave non-IDM releases of last year. Universal Egg Records have some great dub on their label - I've got their All The World In An Egg comp from 1996 -nice spliffy lazy stuff. Anything Adrian Sherwood has had a hand in - the On-U Sound label - Creation Rebel/New Age Steppers, etc. etc. Check 'em out - some can be a bit heavy handed and plodding. (imo) More Rockers - Dube Plate Selection. Twilight Circus Dub Sound Systems. Black Uhuru... the list is endless, really. So much excellent dub out there. Also try Lee "Scratch" Perry's TECHNOMAJIKAL prod. by Yello's Dieter Maier - guaranteed to put a smile on your face for the whole day. I just got an older Jammin'Unit CD, "deaf, dub and blind" and it really cool, and really good ! By the way, I think there's a newer release by him, is it any good ? You can also look at some Basic Channel/Chain Reaction CD's, I recommend Porter Ricks with "Biokinetics", Maurizio, with the M series CD. Bill Laswell may be one of the reference for eclectic dub music, check the Divination series ( more ambient ), or the work he did with Style Scott, "Dub Meltdown" on the WordSound label. Most of Laswell work include some sort of "dubby" sequence, good or bad, it's there! You can go in the "DreadZone" direction, with more vocals; "...360" and "Second Light" and a blend of a lot of different styles. Some of "the Orb" can be called dub; "tower of dub" is an example... That's all I can recommend for now ! --- Maximilien Lincourt, B. info., Software developer mailto:max@toonboom.com http://www.toonboom.com

hmmm..... lee perry....very good...im sure you've heard of him augustus pablo the scientist...check out scientist meets the space invaders....wins the world cup etc... im more of a reggae fan than dub, so id recommend anything on trojan recordings.. the trojan stuff in the late 70's and onwards is more of a recognisable dub sound....heavier bass, more delay etc.. there is a good lee perry 3 cd box set...and an amazing king tubby collection, ill try and get more details for you piece martin Warp Yourself wrote:

While the things you mention are recent, and people have been responding appropriately, I've just gotta suggest at least trying some of the 70s stuff. Blood and Fire are a record label who have been doing a lot of tasty re-releases and compilations. Some are just straight up reggae, others are entirely the dubs. I'd recommend Yabby U's 'King Tubby's Prophesy of Dub'. That's all dub versions of Yabby U material. Bla bla... on the modern front how about the ol' Rhythm and Sound thing? Maurizio doing quite a trad approach to dub. Michael Join 18 million Eudora users by signing up for a free Eudora Web-Mail account at http://www.eudoramail.com
