i know this has been discussed a bit, but if someone would be so kind as to refresh me: what's the Thomas Fehlman sound like? ("Flow 90-98" or some such.) Is it indeed Chain Reactionesque? Gritty? Minimal? Deep? thanks phil ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

Thomas Fehlman's stuff is more in the ambient lush deep electronica style as evident from his collaborators - Sun Electric, Orb and Maurizio. Fehlman does make use of some dancefloor oriented tracks but for the most part he sticks to the mellower side of things. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

Deep, yes, but not in a gritty way, and what I have heard of his solo stuff tended towards a mix of strange "found" samples and analogue synths over idm rhythms. By idm rhythms, I guess I mean that they're not 4 to the floor normally, and not breaks. He co-wrote quite a bit of the Orb's UFOrb. The solo stuff I've heard by him I found quite odd by comparison, but he did also produce an Erasure album... If anyone likes British synth pop stuff, Fehlmann's remixes of Erasure's 'Stay With Me' represent some cross over into IDM land, with some quite spacey effects, etc. I love it, but my girlfriend described it as a psychadelic Rick Astley, due to the vocals, so who knows. :) Michael ____________________________________________ "Also, he has automatic evasion devices" http://www.vuw.ac.nz/~michael/jj.html

Yeah, but the recent "Good Fridge" is an excellent intro to Fehlmann's stuff...includes collaborations with Alex Patterson and Sun Electric. Hasn't left my player since I received it three weeks ago... laz Sam Stein wrote:

Haven't heard the full 12" yet, but I heard the Plug Research remix over the weekend, and it's a killer. (By Trash Aesthetic, if memory serves: Trash Aesthetic = Danny/Low Res + Allen/Mannequin Lung.) Killer hip-hop beat with off-kilter Japanese sounding textures on top... deep and satisfying.

OK, I have the record and here are the details: . Thomas Fehlmann: blow-up chimp over flow minus-two 12" (R&S/Apollo) Tracks: 1. Superfrühstück (Trash Aesthetic Version) 2. Wee Wee mademoiselle (To Rococco Rot Rmx 2) 3. Wee Wee mademoiselle (Sextant Full Diversion) 4. Superfrühstück (Thomas Fehlmann's Flowing mix) Havent given it a whole lot of time yet but i really enjoy it so far. The Trash Aesthetic mix is a cool flanged reverbed hip hop number similar to their Shadow Huntaz intrumental tracks. The To Rococco Rot mix is a smooth melodic beatless mix with retro spacey synth line throughout. The Sextant mix is a very nice light jazzy electronica mix. The Fehlmann mix is an uptempo jazzy techno mix. Overall this ep is a very warm jazzy release that should appeal to those who enjoy light melodic electronica. Recommended.
