I thought that jungle was the new jazz. Or thats what the Village Voice says. IDM is more like the new krautrock; 10 people listened to it when it was happening and 10 years after all the bands are gone, everyone will figure out how great it was. Boards of Canada will be the Sand of the 21st Century. Never heard of Sand (austere, minimal krautrock)? You are already ahead of the curve!

its funny, the only reason i know of sand is because of current 93. what i have heard though has really impressed me. perhaps neu is a good, less-obscure example of your comparison though :) or even the silver apples. just being a hipster :) chris.

Heard the CD homage to Neu!? The download and autechre tracks impressed me quite a bit. That is not to say the rest of the CD is bad. In fact it is all good. Worth getting if you ask me. -daniel

Please, shed some light on why krautrock is good. most of what I've heard is supremely wanky, boring crap. Like prog, only Teutonic. IDM sometimes approaches that level of pretension, but even it has its limits. Am I wrong with the prog-krautrock connection, or have i just not heard enough of either? Sam

You have a right to your personal views and if you don't like it, you don't like it. May I use this opportunity to trot out my favourite Derrick May quote? "Techno was originated by a bunch of German guys. It was innovated by a bunch of Detroit guys. And it was exaggerated by a bunch of European kids. And then it was exasperated by a bunch of fucking German idiots." I * // from Roland Groovebox manual -:- "to go crazy rhythm, just press than hold buttons marked 'don't touch' and you be king ace MC, mach schnell!" //
