from allstarmag.com: Aphex Twin Video-Short Promises Controversy New Album Due In April Richard D. James, better known as Aphex Twin, has again utilized director Chris Cunningham -- who directed the award-winning video for Aphex Twin's "Come to Daddy" -- this time for "Windowlicker," a 10 1/2-minute video single due in stores on Feb. 23. Details on the video short are scarce, except for a brief statement from Sire Records describing the video as "potentially the most controversial and mind-blowing video ever made." Hype aside, the CD single for "Windowlicker" will be released to retail by Warp/Sire Records one month after the video hits stores, on March 23, followed by a not- yet- titled full-length album, which is due in April. ___________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. Is this what Rich was talking about in an interview about year ago, looking for major success on the pop charts. I thought he was talking about a track he'd done, but knowing Chris C. it's got to be a brilliant video. Aside from waiting for "Windowlicker" to be released, can anyone hook me up (aka send it to me, or point me to where it lies) with that Luke Vibert realaudio mix that has it on it? It was removed from the original site but I missed it, but I saw it on Bleep Bloop before it shut done for the first time. Not only do I want to hear "Windowlicker" I'm also a Vibert supporter. Thanks, Rusty

no doubt this would have something to do with the "sexy-thangs" on the aphex twin calendar... mmm... slurrp.... can't wait. A friend showed it to a straight laced, somewhat sadly desperate single guy (hint: talks about mail order brides somewhat seriously) and he hasn' t talked to them since. scarred, apparently. heh. q

Last time I checked the "Windowlicker" MP3 is still on the Tampax Twin site. Search the archives or the WWW for the address.

There's a feature interview with Chris Cunningham in the new issue of RES magazine, <the future of filmmaking>. [which I write for]... anyway, it has some choice quotes from Rich about "Chris is the only person I can be bothered to work with..." Chris's work has been seen in 'come to daddy,' squarepusher's 'come on my selector,' portishead's 'only you,' and madonna's 'frozen.' As for a reason why the new video is so controversial, here is an excerpt from the article by Peter Relic, RES contributor. "Chris Cunningham lies on his belly in a parking lot beside a derelict brown Chevy van with the words 'Bare As You Dare' spray-painted on its side. His Polaroid is aimed at a luscious triumvirate of stacked chicks in cream-colored bikinis draped across the leather interior of a white Mustang GT 4.6l convertible. The Mustang's chrome rims are fashioned in the stylized logo of the Aphex Twin... who reclines amidst the female talent with his feet splayed across white bucket seats, the toes of his black Adidas worn through to reveal the toes of his neon green socks... Cunningham will use Photoshop to replace the faces of the champagne-showering booty girls with Twin's grinning visage." As for Neuromancer, Gibson has given Cunningham his blessing. As Chris is an established visual artist, he has already created hundreds of storyboards for Neuromancer, which is slated for release in 2000. As for Kubrick's AI, Cunningham has designed some of the robots from the forthcoming picture. +odd
