It's interesting that we now include House and Techno in the IDM poll as a seperate category. Why isn't it just called the Dance Music poll? Why isn't there therefore a Swing category, Hiphop category, Disco category...etc... -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

Well, it reflects IDM listeners' taste in house and techno, no? It's something a little different from just a "Dance Music poll", and the focus is on something wider. Something I find a little iffy is that techno is one of the more overarching genre labels. A friend of mine, who's been writing and DJing techno for years, recommended Pole to me as some of the best techno coming out these days. Show that to your average clubber and they'll be pretty bemused. But, yes, indeed, the mainstream acceptance of all things Maurizio related has certainly dragged techno out in front of IDMers for consideration. Hey, waddaya know? The poll is affected by trends? It's almost as if we're actually talking about music. :) Michael ____________________________________________ "Also, he has automatic evasion devices" http://www.vuw.ac.nz/~michael/jj.html

I realize you're making a half-assed joke, but I think there is room for clarification... The jungle category basically is for breakbeat based music, possibly danceable? And the house/techno category is for four-on-the-floor based music, possibly danceable? Therefore, you don't need a disco category... And would people like Burger/iNk and Basic Channel be eligible in house/techno? Why not, right? Swing is obviously ridiculous, but I think a hiphop category would be good for next year, emphasis on production... If we define it by slower breakbeats/scratching/electro influence. Which reminds me... Does electro fit into any of the existing categories, or is it on its own? Is it 'techno?" Aimless pigeon-holer Sam
