I saw the IDM audience quickly leaving after a few songs. We lasted
about 3 songs before we left. I would say there were a decent amount
of people there that liked it. Probably the same people that buy
artists like Rainbow and the Dead.

I wouldn't exactly say that. If they were going to do straight up 70s
rock than I would say yes. If they were going to do experimental stuff
I would say no. If someone booked Holger Czukay, it might work.

I didn't see any candy ravers or people with pacifers
there. There wasn't anyone that looked slightly like a raver there.

I disagree. True he has a background (Zoviet France) in experimental
noise. But he has collaborated with artists like Not Breathing, who
has gotten mentioned on IDM quite a bit. Mark Spybey did some stuff
that was way closer to IDM than true industrial. Part of his show
reminded me of Steve Roach in concert. Experimenting with sounds and
collages of noise (not necessarily abrasive noise), and beats. There
was one track that had beats close to drum n bass sounding.

and i guarantee that no one with a short > attention span owns a dead
voices on air disc. and > the only people i see with richie hawtin
haircuts are > richie hawtin, moby, the occasional raver kid, army >
recruits, black basketball players, and old guys.
I wonder if you saw all of us on IDM, whether you would be able to
properly stereotype what we like. I doubt it.
