Back in the day, ntone (subsidiary of Ninja Tune) released some good discs by Transcend, Drome, Hex, and Real Life, not to mention Journeyman and Neotropic. These days, I only hear about journeyman and Neotropic. Have the first four artists dropped off the ntone roster? I would particularly like to hear another full length by Real Life, their first one was quite good. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Jonathan Logan Work: 415 543-2800 UI Droog Home: 415 487-0424 CriticalPath, Inc. As you say, ntone = Ninja Tune = Coldcut / Hex who are still going strong predominantly as Ninja Tune. Drome = Bernd ("Burnt") Friedmann = Nonplace Urban Fields ::: the Drome I've got is on Kiff, he's also been associated with Freibank and seems to pop up on lots of projects; Journeyman = Paul Frankland = Woob. Journeyman's National Hijinx came out on ntone last year and as Woob he's with em:t. A new release by Neotropic is apparently on the cards (via Ninja Tune) and yes, I agree : more from Real Life would be brlliant. Is 94's "Journey of the Carcharadon" (Wild Mutant Deity) the only thing they've done? Maybe the Nin-jahs (hi Jeff!) can shed some more light? I *

Let's see : Drome and Nonplace Urban Field (which are both Bernd Friedman) were not really NTone artists but signed to German labels. Ninja Tune / NTone just released one album by each of this projects in the UK. If you want to hear some more stuff by Bernd (and I dare say he's great) you should look for his newer albums on Incoming! and Kiss FM (and some older on Wigwam (R.I.P.)). Bernd is also preparing a new album for Ninja Tune / NTone under the name of 'Burndt Friedman & the Nu Dub Players'. Transcend was a collaboration of different Digidub artists. So you have to look there for some more stuff. Real Life were Jon & Matt from Coldcut and Rob Peperell, so you got a new album (more the less) some month back. It's called 'Let Us Play !' :-) Bye Sebastian =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= mail sponsored by | now to be found at the www too seher@cs.tu-berlin.de | http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~seher =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Sorry to drag out this thread - but hang on! It's not *that* simple, surely? The Read Life I've got cites as chief protagonist one Paul Castle. Who's he, and where is he now? I *

you are correct. Hex are actually also a seperate entity outside of their work for Ninja. They've done loads of multimedia projects, visual instalations, etc... There is a very good chance they are doing a performance with David Byrne at the worlds fair in Lisbon this summer. Busy folks all around.

I'm just listening to the masters for the new Neotropic record right now...it's sweet. Release date is Sept.1 and the title is 'Mr Brubakers Strawberry Alarm Clock'. We've been talking to Bernd about doing a full length for us. Nothing totally confirmed yet, but the demos he sent were wicked. Whoever ends up releasing them, I would recommend picking it up. Actually, I think all his releases are awesome. Especially the ones that came out on Incoming a few years ago. Real Life...fucked if I know. Jon and Matt Coldcut were involved but it was way before my days as a Ninja and I'm really not sure where the other contributors are now. Alright Then, Take Care Ninja Jeff

Totally by chance I was reading the small print on Loop Guru's "Amrita" and there's a reference to Strawberry Alarm Clock : Strawberrys (sic) mean love. What is this?? And is it in any related to Ms Maslen? And who is Mr Brubaker? :-) I *
