Hello. Saw a similar thread elsewhere, so I thought I'd share with you which CDs I like to play for particular games. I got hold of Descent around the same time that Autechre's 'Amber' was released. To this day, I've never played the game without 'Amber' providing the soundtrack. The music suitably enhanced the game's claustrophobic, yet also curiously expansive, feel, building on the feeling of isolation. Great stuff. Quake -- always did prefer Trent Reznor's industrial ambience. The music in Quake2 was dire though. I prefer music that enhances an existing mood rather than music that dominates or enforces a mood upon you. Quake2's heavy metal bollocks was just too overbearing, so I opted for something a bit more atmospheric. Step forward Biosphere's 'Substrata'. Lots of beautiful ambient twiddles that didn't intrude upon the action, but nevertheless had enough of an eerie edge about them to add to the game's creepy atmosphere. Aphex Twin's 'SAW2' also works well with Quake/Quake2. I'm looking forward to trying Plastikman's 'Consumed' with something. /\/)ark

A few weeks ago I was playing Frank Sinatra's "Come Fly With Me" during a Quake2 deathmatch at work. It was great! "Come fly with me, come fly, come fly away..." Dunno....i reckon you can't go wrong with putting on one of Dragonfly's Order Odonata CDs when playing Quake....kind of 'manics' up the whole experience... -- Ben Coffer http://www.hybridgame.demon.co.uk/

I'll second that. When I was a proper student and didn't have to get up to go to work everyday (I'm on my placement year) I used to play Quake in pitch darkness until way into the small hours with SAW II coming out the speakers. It's the only time a computer game has ever really got me shitting in my pants. I used to dump it everytime I sneaked around a corner incase I was going to get completely nailed. Tightmare.

If the review I saw on this list earlier is anything to go by then the levels in Quake II with all the lava in should be just right :-) I always play Wipeout 2097 with Parasols volume 2 playing. It's a comp on Mr C's label full of reasonably hard techno which isn't just that thump thump thump bizness I used to jump up and down to in Club UK :-) On a different subject, was that O'boy single by Plod that a few folk were talking about earlier a promo? I asked Juno records if they had it and they didn't know anything about it. Self-releases CD-R, only 100 copies made. They're on the list, so perhaps they can let us know if there are any copies left. I doubt it, though. Too bad, it's fucking brill. Greg

I used to play Doom with Urban Dance Squad's "Persona non grata". It's not IDM, it's a Dutch metal/hiphop crossover record. But I hardly played any copmuter games ever since Doom, so that's about it. --==v^v^v==-- Mathias Verraes ET.phone.home@ThePentagon.com Demi-Sick (live triphop & drum'n'bass) http://www.biosys.net/demisick demisick@biosys.net --==v^v^v==--

Try playing Descent with Seefeel's 'Succour' as soundtrack. Talk about lost in space.. Seems like I also tried some Black Dog, and while the result was quite different, twas tres enjoyable nonetheless. ^_^ Brad Shelton bshelton@cte.net The opinions in this message are mine, and are not work related.
