i have to second this. there's some brilliant material here. basically covers all the bases. it's got the now infamous mos def/q-tip/tash collab, another one with KRS, Last Emperor and the Rage Against the Machine guy all going off against the CIA [it's called 'criminals in action']. Excellent spoken word over beats style stuff from Saul Williams (who just added another reason to make me jealous of those of you attending the diskono nights!) and Sarah Jones. Intros and stuff by Kool Keith/Sir Melinik and De La. Lots of underground shzitz like talib kweli, Cipher Complete (any relation to the Cipher who just released an album on Bomb?) My only complaint is that the J5 track had no cut chemist scratch work outs or anything, and an overall lack of turntablist action, but then again it is the LYRICIST lounge... it's excellent. np: mike zoot: all in my own... i was thinkin about ordering one of his twelves from the ps: thx to those who spoke up about my good trading\ mlt _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. I love the Sarah Jones thing. Utterly simple, but utterly beautiful. Just beats and poems - back to the old school, but fresh!

Yeah, I don't think it's one of the strongest trax on the album. Still very good, but it's got a lot of competition on this LP! Speaking of Cut Chemist, I think I'm gonna get the Jurrasic 5 mini-LP that's in my local shop 'cos it has that excellent Cut Chemist track "Lesson 6" on it from the Deep Concentration compilation (thanks Sam for exposing me to that!), but I'm not sure 'cos I know there's an LP dropping soon. Anyway, what little I've heard of the EP sounds wicked - but any comments would still be appreciated. After hearing that Cut Chemist track I made a point of listening to his remix of Liquid Liquid's "Cavern" but wasn't half as impressed. Might be a grower, tho.

I haven't had personal trades with you but I know you've been on the list a while and bad traders don't tend to stick around or do a lot for a list/scene regarding input/websites etc. Not saying it isn't possible, but why would someone risk tainting their name like that? Regarding web-sites, I've had an e-mail lying around in my inbox that you posted to IDM a while ago about turning your site into a web-zine. I think it's a great idea and I would like to write something in contribution, although I have no time whatsoever right now and I don't have a clue what I would write about anyway. But just wanted to show my support on that front... That's all for now. The version of "Lesson 6" on the J5 ep is slightly different and worth checking out, but the ep as a whole is excellent and definitely worth picking up.

Agreed. Lesson Six is a fucking increidble track. About that Liquid Liquid 12": this sounds like an incredibly stupid question, but which side contains "Cavern" and which side contains "Scraper"? For some reason, I can't seem to figure it out (I've never heard anything else by Liquid Liquid, I just saw it at the record store for 2 bucks and noticed the Cut Chemist remix). Is there some sort of general format to figuring this out (I'm also somewhat new to buying vinyl)? dont bother with the Jurassic cd. the rest of it is pretty bland. Lesson 6 is the only track thats instrumental and the rest of the cd is hella mediocre. clockwise np: Rob Swift "Soulful Fruit" (now this here's the shit!) At 08:36 PM 5/14/98 -0700, you wrote:

Heads up to LA-headz: Lyricist Lounge is making a Cali stop next friday (22nd) downtown at the Alexandria Hotel. The info line is at 213.957.4897 and mentioned Mos Def and the Beat Junkies being on the bill among others. Also, if you haven't picked up the Cut Chemist meets Shortkut disc then run out to Virgin records - this is by far the best turntablist disc I've picked up in the last year. They had a stack of them last week but wouldn't sell one to Q because it wasn't midnight. paul
