hi, i am in the process of compiling mixes for a small birthday party i am having and i want to have one of the mixes convey feelings of intense emotional sadness or joy that could almost make you weep. very overwrought and melodramatic but in a good way. also very well produced. no genre definitions required. it can be pop, or idm or techno or even country (shudder) if it fits the bill in the emotions department. examples of the vibe i am looking for would be: portishead (a few things from 'dummy') old sinead o'connor julee cruise aphex (stuff from saw I) some seefeel 'moist moss' from locust's "weathered well" i have some things in mind but i thought people on the list(s) might have some insights into songs that make them feel this way. any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot! derek... peace, love and ambience. d... d@techno.ca http://www.clo.com/~orbital

Very interesting question. Three things that immediately come to mind are: Autechre-Vletrmx21 (off of the "Garbage" e.p.) Goretski-Third Symphony (amazing ambient/classical music that recently rendered me full of tears - very emotional and overwhelming at times) SPK-Zamia Lehmanni (seminal industrial outfit, this album is an essential release and is not typically "industrial" or SPK sounding, for that matter. Dark, somber symphonic soundtrack type music <Graeme Revell is a genius>) I'm sure there are quite a few more, but my mind is blank. Good luck. -- Mr. Tangent "insert random quoted text here, for your reading pleasure"

its gorecki, and i could not agree more. the first 10 minutes or so is probably the most beautiful classical music i have ever heard. (although its not really classical, i think it was written in the early 70's about a polish ghetto during ww2) also check out everything you do is a balloon by boards of canada cl

Sorry for the misspelling, I've been online all day and the text is beginning to merge into itself, if you know what I mean.

You know what, I was going to say that! But I didn't want to list a thousand songs/albums, so I omitted it. Thank dog for the Skampler compilation. To add another one that's simply awe inspiring: Aphex Twin-Disk Two, Last Track (off "Selected Ambient Works Vol. II") Speaking of BoC, there are several vinyl only releases, correct? Does the recent CD "Music has a right to children" have all the vinyl tracks? I'm going to get it soon and was curious. Thanks! -- Mr. Tangent "insert random quoted text here, for your reading pleasure"

ahh, yes, good choice, too. but leave out the last 2.30. :) i made a tape for a friend, and that's the last track. he said he almost cried himself to sleep to it, then that part started and he burst out laughing... * #### a disturbance in a system. #### laerm. @voicenet.com #### one time and you're a philosopher; two times and you're a pervert.

ok... i'm gonna try and make this simple: an alternate mix of Aquarius (the a side of the 7" of the same name) is on the album 'turquise hexagon sun' from hi scores is on the album. 'smokes quantities' from twoism is on the album both the tracks from the promo 10" are on the album. you get 'everything you do is a balloon' and 'hi scores' on skampler. which means you miss out on half of hi scores, all of aquarius and most of twoism (not like you'd be able to find that one anyway! ;-) but, the bottom line is GET A TURNTABLE. and to further confuse things: 'seeya later' from twoism is also on the 'hi scores' 12" 'sixtyniner' from twoism will be on the diskono scottish 12" and i'm not even touching the BoC Maxima 20 song demo tape! for all things BoC point to: http://gargamel.com/frankie/ or:: http://www.ednet.co.uk/~ehx for all things SKAM point to: http://members.home.com/fresh/skam/ gottit? good. (btw, those 'last 2:30' of 'everything you do is a ballon' are NOT boc, but rather a hidden skampler-only track by Jega, called tamad. and there's another one before that by gescom, called 'stoop'. 'everything...' ends when you hear the music stop... the quacking isn't on the original ep. for complete track times check the url above i'm too lazy to cut and paste!) mlt. _____________________________________________________________________ You don't need to buy Internet access to use free Internet e-mail. <snip various> Thanks so much for the very in depth clarification! I sincerely appreciate it!
quoted 1 line but, the bottom line is GET A TURNTABLE.>but, the bottom line is GET A TURNTABLE.
I actually have a Technics but I generally do not like vinyl. Not to get into the whole analog vs. digital debate but I like the portability and ease of use of cds over vinyl. Plus, the main reason I don't buy that much vinyl is I fear it'll get broken in transit when I mail order. Due to my location (missouri) I have to mail order nearly 99% of the music I buy, and CD's hold up better in shipping. If I lived near a cool vinyl store I would buy a lot more vinyl, but I don't so CD is my preferred medium. In any event, thank you very much mult santa. i don't know how the postal service is in missouri, but i get vinyl shipped to me fairly often, mainly from stores but sometimes from people on the net selling stuff...and i've never had any vinyl destroyed in transit (lost, yes. but not destroyed) in any case, the store that's selling the vinyl ought to have the records insured, and be able to replace anything that didn't make it to you in perfect shape. np: main "ix" "a dream is worth a thousand pictures, the mouths of lampreys a thousand more..."

So, I got my copy of Aquarius yesterday, and I find it to be nice and soooothing. Definetly a must have, what does everyone else think? Tony
