i agree with irene: landcruising is a great record. it was ignored when it came out because it's much more experimental than the psyche stuff and has no breaks like 69. it's also not a very funky paperclip people kind of record. comparisons to kraftwerk were, i though, very appropriate, because it has a very sleek european feel to it. too bad, since it has three or four of cc's best songs ever. home entertainment always pops up in my favourite songs lists (those strings...) i seem to remember the odd interview where carl expressed a bit of bitterness at his record being creamed for not being "the typical funky, dancy detroit" kind of record. incidentally, carl craig mentioned to a friend of mine at the waxy party in montreal last year (carl, derrick and juan in one room! no one went) that the strings on landcruising were mostly from sample cd's and not vintage gear. as far as the more experimental side to cc's music is concerneed, i am _eagerly_ awaiting the new innerzone orchestra record (sun ra's drummer!) peace, a. np: sub-seducer

I have to chime in on this one. "Home entertainment", in the time period, from birth to now, would probably get Number One, if I was asked for a chart. I listened to it nearly every day for a year. got it down to once a week now .... seeking therapy next month. Moving on swiftly, If you don't like the guitar in "Science fiction", you should check out kenny Larkins mix, doesn't stray greatly from the original but adds a bit more in the form of warmth and ^tempo. I actually like the guitars in the original, they really only come in at the end anyway - finishes off the track nicely. Going to the other end of the Spectrum (the dancefloor) I'd highly recommend Paperclip people - "Throw", one of their (his) finest imho. You hear this from a lot of people - just shows how good it is. NP, Carl Craig: "Televised Green Smoke" (More songs about...) ain't exactly miles behind "Home Entertainment" ( along with "At Les") in the classic league. JB

Someone may have already answered this question, but what record label are the 69 releases on? Are they still in print, and if not, how difficult are they to find? "4 jazz funk classics" and "Sound on Sound" are on Planet E; Lite Music is on Planet E but licensed to R&S. I believe both "4 Jazz.." and "Sound on Sound" are still in print...I've had a helluva time finding Lite Music, though, so I'm almost positive it's out of print. Not real easy finding the other two, either, but possible. Cheers, Bill / dj marathon
