There is a limited edition box set of 5 of his EP's (sorry I don't have them here to list) and the green one is the newest in the set. The older ones are excellent idm-type, a little like Luke Slater at times and similar to B12, earlier SPeedy J on a few earlier tracks. The 4th EP has more of the crazy electronic sounds of the one you got, plus it has a classical/orchestral (synthesized very well) peice on the back that is definitely on par with the recent Orbital soundtrack (dark!) "Epnom Bynom" is the fifth Machine Codes EP (CODE E). Here is a quick Machine Codes discography: Mike Dred --- Fu-Chin-Ra (CODE A/1993/12") Mike Dred --- Kosmik Konundrums (CODE B/1994/12") Mike Dred --- Code C EP (CODE C/1994/12") Mike Dred/Peter Green --- Beyond The Box (CODE D/1995/12") Mike Dred/Peter Green --- Epnom Bynom (CODE E/1996/12") Machine Codes Compilation Boxed Set (CODE FLP/1997/LTD 5x12") Machine Codes Compilation CD (CODE FCD/1997/CD) Forthcoming: Mike Dred/Peter Green --- Ming's Kitchen (CODE GCD/1998/CD) Mike Dred --- Mach 98 Vol. 1 (CODE H/1998/12") The original EPs are rather hard to come by; though the vinyl compilation is limited to 187 copies it is readily available, as well as the CD. The vinyl version has all the five EPs, the CD has a selection of tracks. Peter Green is an electroacoustic composer (with a degree!) and does his lot quite proud; the compositions are weird but catchy and innovative. Mike Dred does his usual acid thing in the vein of "Freaquenseize" (RePHLeX/CAT010(LP/CD/EP5)) and "Valley of the Spirits" (RePHLeX/CAT012(CD/EP)). They posted a more complete discography of their works on the WarpNet's WarpComm (with some other information on the side); you can find the message at http://www.warp-net.com/warp/comm/messages/112121432.html I have extra copies of codes B-E for sale, for $8/12". Buyer pays postage & packaging. I am not having any pressure to sell, so I will only sell them all at one go. Mail me privately if interested. -- nuutti-iivari meril?inen -> gordon@diversion.org : diversion communications technostructuralist + information architect + media designer

IDM listers: I urge all and everyone to check out Mike Dred and Peter Green's "Virtual Farmer" CD/2 X lp when it comes out on Rephlex in October. Pretty damn amazing stuff. It's almost finished its first playthrough here, and I'm not getting any work done cos I'm just sitting here transfixed. Percussion and analog manipulation to the max, with a crazy yet warm feel. Check it out. ***Bryan/IDM: There are ten tracks. CD version has a CDROM track which is apparently a video. Sound wise, it is a variety, but all of it is so damn warm. It's crazy, but not in a all over the place let's take this to the limit kind of thing. It's like a warm bath with percussion dancing around in the background The last track just finished, and it was a symphonic piece, whereas the rest was like some kind of soulful dance between analog percussion and analog keys. It sounds like they spent a lot of time on it (a year says the press release), but not in a polished kind of way, more of a we-wanted-this-to-sound-good-in-the-long-term sort. Played the second track on the show (In The Mix) last night and it was, from memory, more in the electro-ish vein, and then started today listening from after that track onward. There is a lot there to get the head around in the first listen, I'm just going through a pile of new things and this was screaming "I'm amazing" really loud compared to some of the others. Hope this helps,at least a bit. I'm not very eloquent word wise at the moment due to too much computer work and not any fuel (sleep, water, food, etc). Andrew
