I've had this 12" for several weeks, and have been spinning the odd locked groove on audio-nimbus when i'm feeling wacky. Here's a mini-review i sent the IDM-L late January..
quoted 1 line>>
One side is loaded with Commodore locked grooves, and the flip is Atari. Hard to digest in one take, but if you enjoy listening to airplane's drifting along for several minutes, tanks shooting at other tanks, and odd sound effects, this record is definitely for you. I personally enjoy the fact that these locked grooves are funny, nostalgic and will fit nicely in between tracks during a set. "The 8-Bit Construction" set is not just a series of quirky video-game pops and loops, it unfolds into what may be an entirely new genre for experimental electronics. Even though there are more locked grooves than tracks on this 12inch, i still find it neat to hear sounds that would otherwise remain locked in our childhood (video-game) memories. Beige Records :: www.beigerecords.com :: And here are some details from this rather odd slab of wax.. "The 8-Bit Construction Set" Atari vs. Commodore ~ format ~ samples / locked grooves / track / data cassette program. "NOTE: For data cassette program operation, dub to cassette and follow load instructions inscribed on inside of record (Atari or Commodore computer with data cassette drive necessary)." is there anyone else using this distressed-atari style to good effect ? or could anyone offer some recommendations of music that most draws from the soundtracks of 8-bit-or-less systems ? thanks. .af. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Bodenstandig 3000 comes to mind.... their album on Rephlex is chock full of Commodore 64 sounds... or if you want even more primitive sampling, they perform an acapella techno track too. :) Wicked stuff.
