the alec empire/panacea _chrome 13_ 12" is comparable to panacea's album _low profile darkness_, IMO. it's an interesting track because it's almost "standard" early panacea stuff until the "destroyer"-ish breaks kick in halfway through. while i do enjoy the newer panacea stuff, i think it lacks the sheer hellish sound of his album and it's tending towards a kind of fat two-step beat, a la problem child. all of his material is worth picking up, though. and i LIKE _torque_, but next to panacea (or almost anything german) it's pretty weak. and right now i'm listening to alec empire's _squeeze the trigger_ - best album since _the destroyer_, hands down, but i also find it to be more enjoyable on a regular basis (it doesn't leave you cowering in a pool of sweat...). gaa! Speaking of Alec Empire, any opinions/reviews of the "Geist of Alec Empire" multi-CD boxed set? The local Virgin Megastore has several copies of it that I keep eyeing ... (I wonder when that Geist label is gonna get a fax from Morgan) - Greg

Well, it's 3 CDs of selected tracks from his Mille Plateaux albums (with the tracks from the Electric Ladyland comps and a couple of unreleased tracks thrown in to make us 'spotters buy it). If you've got all his Mille Plateaux albums and Electric Ladylands, you don't need it, 'cos the unreleased trax aren't worth getting it for (but wait, strike that, I *am* posting to idm after all :-)). The sequencing seems odd though - it splits up all the tracks from each release all over the discs (and it seems like it does this randomly). This could work, I haven't listened to it yet, I'm just going by my memory that each release had pretty much its own separate mood and I can't see how putting the tracks all over the place would really work. Guess that's what programming is for.....

Probably never, since geist is just German for spirit.... :-)
