I am (still) looking to buy a copy of this 4-lp box set (or individual copies of the LPs therein) called "Trial by Intimacy" of instrumentals on the Cocteau record label, JEAN2. I don't care if it has the poster, book, etc, or even if the box is in good shape, as long as the vinyl is in good shape. will accept the seperate LPs, just not cass/CD I will give cash and/or else trade any of the following toward the deal: Nelson, Bill - "Do You Dream in Colour?" (original 7", Good, 1st Cocteau) Brian Eno - "Music for Films 2" (very rare, near mint-vinyl/cover) B12 - "Electro-Soma" (MINT original colored vinyl 2xLP on Warp Rec) Speedy J - "Ginger" (MINT original colored vinyl 2xLP on Warp Rec) Ultravox - "New Europeans" (mint '81 Japanese-only vinyl of b-sides/live) Octagon Man - "The Demented Spirit" 12" ('91 J Saul Kane on Vinyl Solu.) Drexciya - Molecular Enhancement" EP (mint, Rephlex CAT017) AFX(Aphex Twin) w/Schizophrenia - ABB1 12" (near mint, original) Arcane Device - "" (first LP, 88?, mint, feedback music) Partch, Harry - (near-mint first vinyl LP, '68-'69?) misc electro & new wave (early cold-wave, synth, pre-83-european) misc early Factory label records (JD, Sec25, Stockholm M, comps) the '91 Kraftwerk 12"s (w/press release/party info/flyers) misc Eno, Budd, ambient on E.G. Records (good-thru-mint, all vinyl) Again, I am only interested in trading for these Bill Nelson lps; the records above are NOT FOR SALE or trade otherwise, thanx. Detroit techno wannabee with kinda boring beats - they didn't seem to have any concept of how to program dynamics into their Roland digital drum machine (what was it, an R70? I haven't heard it in years). Of course, since it's in Warp's "Artificial Intelligence" series, it seems to be regarded as a must-have on this list. I think the Soma in the title was more true than intended. It puts me to sleep. Che

You are just stuck on the fact that you think their R-8 is too obvious, like you griped about years ago when it came out. This LP isn't about ultra-clever programming, it is about a very positive and solid Detroit soundtrack to a post-industrial future. It ain't a good LP to pick apart for what gear made it, because it doesn't have any clever magic, just beautiful tracks. I'm the person looking to trade it, and I'm only willing to do so to get toward attaining some great old Bill Nelson (instr-synth tracks), who I know you respect, so help me out here CHE!! ;-) Solenoid On Thu, 30 Apr 1998, Che wrote:

WHAT?! i just emailed the guy off list a couple of hours ago and told him it was essential- and it is in my opinion- to be honest, i didn't like it when it came out and sold it. but later, i found myself constantly listening to that tape- ...many people take jabs at b12's programming, saying it's 'lame' and that that they should learn how to program a drum beat- but that's exactly what attracts me to their sound... its quirky, light, subtle, idosyncratic... and groovy. b12 are not about copying the detroit sound (which i'm sure they could do without a problem), but about expanding upon it... peace. :spacecake:

I have to disagree with che. Electro-soma is an all-time favorite of mine. it wears its detroit influences well while still maintaining the signiture b12 sound. imho, all the tracks are superb - especially soundtrack of space, bio dimension, obtuse, telefone 529 and static emotion. there is only one track on electro-soma that i don't like: metropolis which sounds a little ravey to me. In closing B12's Electro-Soma is one of the few A.I. releases i still listen to with regularity. Count me as one who considers Electro-Soma a must have release. -->-Lance--- p.o. box 450715 westlake, ohio 44145 united states

I agree with Lance almost in every word here, except with metropolis track. I love Metropolis, because of that futurist strings and acid lines and lazerzapppsss, I can't help it, I am sddicted to their sound. 'Obsessed' and 'Telephone 529' are one of the 1st IDM tracks I've heard, and still sound so brilliant and I really don't have words to tell more..... B12 "Electro-Soma" along with Kosmik Kommando's "Freaquensieze" is my all-time fave, too. I still play this two albums 2-3 times in a month. Those 2 along with As One's "Celestial Soul' , VeloCette's "Sonorities By Starlight" , Phenomyna's "Unexplained" and Monomorph's "Alternative Fluid" are the most playable stuff in my house. This is really the stuff I listen most frequently and I couldn't imagine myself without these CDs :-) bye rob np: Mondrin : B12 (definitely one of the best tracks I've ever heard)

I've had these MP3's lying around for ages from what seems to be an old B12 records compilation... 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Stasis - Point of No Return 8. Stasis - Funky Purple Hotpants (FTPD) 9. Stasis - I Think It's Here 10. Stasis - Questions for Vanmannan 11. Stasis - VCF 12. Stasis - Funky Purple Hotpants 13. Stasis - Paul's Outerlude As you can see the first 6 are blank. Can anyone confirm for me the title of this compilation (if it really is a comp) and what the titles are for the first six tracks?? I know this is long out of print, but there must be somebody who has this. Lance?! :) Peter?!! :))) Aaron

Good guess, i do have it. The mp3s in question come from the Redcell/Stasis split cd on the B12 label. The first six tracks are all by Redcell (aka b12). Here are the track names you're missing: 1. Redcell: Waste Lands (Cektion) 2. Redcell: Interim 3. Redcell: One Thing in Mind 4. Redcell: Soundtrack of Fear 5. Redcell: Outerim 6. Redcell: Solar Winds But by far the best B12 label release is the compilation cd called B Twelve Records presents Prelude Part 1. This 18 track cd contains a plethora of rare, remixed, live and unreleased b12 tracks & interview snippets. Here is the tracklisting for that one too: 1. Experimental Music (interview excerpt) 2. Redcell: Outerim 3. B12: Drift (Outro)* 4. Question 1 (interview excerpt) 5. B12: Hall of Mirrors (Mix II)* 6. B12: Basic Rhythm* 7. B12: Cymetry (Cektion)* 8. Question Two (interview excerpt) 9. B12: Tomorrow is Yesterday* 10. We Know (interview excerpt) 11. B12: Telefone 529 (Dub Mix)* 12. B12: Binary Fault* 13. Answer (interview excerpt) 14. B12: Ancient Egypt* 15. B12: Shadow of a Former Self (Intro)* 16. Question Three (interview excerpt) 17. B12: Pantone 137* 18.
