Just thought I'd mention that the show in Toronto was super hip. The
visuals by Hexstatic were quite neat (live film stuff with premade film
over top during Food and Koala, plus more "video" type stuff during
Coldcut)...Made EBN look weak in comparison (though I've yet to see EBN
live, so maybe they can pull it off as good). Kid Koala pulled off some
stellar scratching which seemed to be to everyone's delight, although my
friend complained that it was rather undanceable as a result (But me thinks
his problem is a lack of enjoyment of old school hip hop). Food was fun,
but mainly obscure records, and stuff that I was unfamiliar with....
Coldcut was stellar though. Great live stuff, hip visuals (although
"playing" natural rhythms seemed silly...sounded much better live than on
my computer, but the actual "playing" of it...pushing play...seemed
pointless in a 'live' situation). Great stuff.
Plus if you get a chance pick up the Food and Kid Koala mix tapes.
Excellent. (though most of the Koala tape is on the "ScratchHappyLand" 10"
and the Food tape is recorded quite low).
Unfortunately they did not have the NinjaTune backcatalogue for sale at the
show supercheap as they had promised, but oh-well...a penny or two saved!
