on a different tip...outta curiousity what's your opinion of all these u.s. commercials with electronic music, jungle mostly. without mentioning names of gigantic entities let's just say that a jeans manufacturer seems to be using what sounds like ed rush and nico. i've seen plenty more adverts with the corporate guys trying to hide behind the latest and greatest 'new' musical scene. i've read quite a bit about electronic music being used on cable channels as fill in music here on the list in recent posts. i'm curious if any of you feel like it's a good thing, 'cuz i'm having a hard time seeing anything positive about it myself. i feel like my generation is being directly marketed too, and it's often times hard to spot the actual advertisers these days as things are so vague. the more confusing they make it, the more hip. and if it's confusing, we all look at it harder and remember the advertisers better. the next thing you know you're posting to a listserv in a sense advertising again. if you post in response to this, be vague about who you reference, because then your not feeding in to the campaign. top amen out.

That would be the levis commercial with "The Mutant". Quite shocking when I heard it. But that track's 2 years old, so they're still behind. And MTV's only 5 years behind so who cares? -Kevin

That explains it! All the people who make ads and MTV and stuff go to these strange record stores where they only sell stuff *we* all listened to 2-5 years ago. Either that, or they go to the *same* stores we go to and only shop in the used bins (since ad people are so poorly paid!). They don't notice the big racks with all the cool new music. I tell you, those ad people are a strange lot. -CF

did NOBODY notice who was actually the dj in the ad!! i forget his name at the moment but he's one of east coasts biggest jungle djs, i read a interview with him not too long ago, he's some young black guy that goes to college in a "farmtown" with mostly white kids and he introduced jungle to the whole community so now he's some kind of god. shit, i could have taken the torque discs to some college and i bet most of the college kids would fall in love with it, it's a fact of exposure, not the way you do it for the most part. for the most part. -kiya

No no no you're wrong wrong wrong, exposure has nothing to do with it, The Masses only enjoy music like this because they're mindless sheep who'll buy anything shoved down their throats, only Very Very Special People Like Us are capable of TRULY falling in love with it just through simple exposure, anyone "normal" who likes it only likes it because they think it's cool to like it and they're just bandwagon-jumpers. There, I said it! Now nobody else has to . . . -- ::: Lazlo (lazlo@swcp.com; http://www.swcp.com/lazlo) ::: Internet Music Wantlists: http://www.swcp.com/lazlo/Wantlists
