OK, I'll do the old song-by-song review.
Track 1- A Journey to Reedham (7 am mix)
This is my favorite Tom J song yet. It opens with this beautiful
little repeating melody, and then he overlays it with his best drum
programming yet, in my opinion. Then he gets some more melodies to
interlay with the drums. "Moving" best describes it. This track is so
good. :)
Track 2- Full Rinse (featuring MC Twin Tub)
A relatively short song of all drums and some synth sounds, more
great programming. If you love Tom for his drum skills and not melodies,
it's another amazing track
Track 3- Massif (Stay Strong)
I love this song. Opens with another beautiful melody, and overlays,
what else, but Atari game sounds. (Most noticably from Bezerk.) More
melodies overlap, and he gets into some killer drum breaks. Later he
loses the Atari sounds, and gets into some bizzare synth stuff. It has
so much variation, I can't describe what happens.
Track 4- Come On My Selector
Popping synth sounds and constantly changing drums, with the
occassional bass line thrown in. One really great bass riff kicks in in
the middle, you can see him playing it in your head, it's crazy. A
mediocre track to me, everyone else might love it.
Track 5- The Body Builder (Dressing Gown mix)
Strange humming and synth sounds. Some odd samples thrown in, also.
Rayguns, zaps, and hums are continually present. Pretty strange, while
still listenable.
Track 6- Tequila Fish
Even *more* strange synth sounds. A retro melody thrown in there to
lighten it up, and I think he plays a bass line through the song, but I
can't be sure. The melody, and everything else stops in the middle, and
the song becomes quite different. It's harder, and faster, no melody,
more drums, and a definite bass line. Really strange vocal sample
towards the end. Neat track.
Track 7- Jacques Mal Chance (il n'a pas de chance)
Strange. Really short little diddy. Not much to really say. By the
time I finished typing the song title correctly, it was over. :)
Overall-
This album is amazing. I do actually prefer Feed Me Weird Things,
but this release is definetely better done. (Does that make sence?) I
prefer his more melodic things, which is why I only really love 2 tracks
off Big Loada. But if you prefer his drum stuff, go buy this right now.
His next full album is going to be even better if he keeps this up.
