I don't know about "idm beats", but I think the growing popularity of syncopation in pop/r&b stuff has a lot to do with Timbaland's productions. I don't really know where he gets his inspiration from, he always seems to dismiss any drum'n'bass influences despite the occasional similarities when people bring that up, but he's admitedly a big fan of Bjork and of course she's pretty well connected to the IDM scene. I'll definately have to agree with you statement on that. Pop cheese is definately getting its hands on some better beats. I really would blame that on the backstreets and the britneys.......most likely just some board to piss producers.
