thanks to everyone who gave me advice on TBD material. i'm gonna have to place a special order i suppose, as it seems their other material is a bit hard to get a hold of. i did pick up Repeat, which has a similar style (at lease IMO) and is quite infectious. as for this "debate" regarding the popularity of groups like chem. bros, prodigy, fsol, etc.. i just think there's a few things one should consider. first, "electronica" is not the only music out there. limiting yourself to one type of music will simply make you a "myopic" individual. all music feeds off each other. secondly, i'll "admit" (sounds like some sort of therapy session) that i love the chem. bros. i also love speedy j, muziq, plug, doof, autechre, jedi knights... and those are just the electronic groups i listen to. so does that mean i'm not "worthy" enough to listen to these groups?? when a group gets recognition, No One is placing a stamp on that band and saying "this is the best group out." it's your money. you know what you like, you buy what you like, so why get mad when a magazine "highlights" certain groups and not others. it's not affecting you. and i use the chem. bros. as an example because they were one of the bands that got me interested in "electronica." and i'll continue to listen to them, simply because i like them, and they're good at what they do. and finally (yes, i'm almost finished), just because a group isn't mentioned, doesn't mean they aren't good. just like any sort of research, there's deadlines for articles, resources can be limiting, and it's easier, and perhaps better, to start from the ground up (so to speak). hell, i didn't know what or who square pusher was a few months ago, but now i own 2 LPs, and 2 e.p/ singles by "them." and it wasn't from reading any magazine. i just shopped around my local music store. it seems that if you try to stay "underground," your life, ideas, and outlooks seem to follow... lovely day, chrisTiaN -- " Be extremely subtle, even to the point of formLessness.
